Quick Guide System 1200 - SmartStation Orientation Using Common Reference Object.
Quick Guide System 1200 - SmartStation Orientation Using Common Reference Object.
This guide is designed to show the user how to update the orientation of more than
one smartstation setup, by using a common reference point which may not be able to
be occupied by the smartstation. This could be applicable if a survey is being carried
out from two setups between which a line of sight cannot be observed, but which can
both see a suitable RO to which distances can be measured. This method also makes
use of the COGO application program.
Go to the main
menu.
Select 1 Survey.
Press Enter while
the focus is on Job.
F2(NEW). Fill out
all the required
details. Press F6

the Codelist tab.
Select your
codelist from the
list. Press F6
again to choose
your coordinate
system. (Note: To
create a new
coordinate system
please see quick
guide DTC-One
Pt Localisation.)
Press F1 (Store)
then F1 (Cont)
In the Survey

Replace the
Smartantenna

at the common
RO point.
Enter a Backsight
ID.

Then F2 (DIST)
At this point the
azimuth can be
anything. For zero,
press F4 (Az=0)
Then press
F1(SET).
Note: The
backsight ID must
be visible from the
second Station
Setup.
The common RO
point must now be
5
observed using a
different point ID,
but one which can
be easily identified
later, eg STN1-
STN2.
Continue with the
survey.
At the moment,
your survey could
look similar to
this, where the line
between points 1-4
is the face of a
building which
should be
(roughly!) straight.
The next task is to
compute the
7
position of STN2.
For this we will
use the COGO
application
program to
calculate the
intersection point
of the distances
measured from
known points
STN1 and STN3.
Press the PROG
button, highlight
the COGO
program, then
enter the
Intersections
option. Select
method Dist-Dist,
8 highlight 1st Point
and select the first
station setup ID
from the list. Then
highlight 2nd
Point, and select
the second station
setup ID from the
list.
The co-ordinates
of the first result
(New Pt 1) will be
displayed. Press
F3 (RSLT2) to
display the co-
ordinates of New
Pt 2. Highlight the
Point ID, and type
12 in the ID of the
common RO point,
in this case STN2.
If required, page
across and assign a
code. The position
of the point can
also be viewed in
the Plot tab. Press
F1 (STORE).
The following
message will be
displayed. Press
F3 (VIEW) to see
a list of the setups
13 which will be
updated. You can
also view a map
screen to see how
the setups will be
re-orientated.
Press F1 (CONT),
then F6 (YES) to
update the
orientation. It will
return to the
Results page of

the COGO
program. Press
<SHIFT>F6
(QUIT) to return
to the survey
screen.
