This document contains 7 tutorial problems about determining stresses and required dimensions in mechanical structures and components. The problems involve calculating internal forces, average normal and shear stresses in beams, wires, pins, bolts, and determining required pin diameters; and representing stresses on volume elements at specific points.

Tutorial-1
1. Determine the resultant internal loadings on the cross section
through point D. Assume the reactions at the supports A and B are vertical.
2. The shaft is supported at its ends by two bearings A and B and is
subjected to the forces applied to the pulleys fixed to the shaft. Determine the resultant internal loadings acting on the cross section located at point C. The 300-N forces act in the -z direction and the 500-N forces act in the +x direction. The journal bearings at A and B exert only x and z components of force on the shaft. 3. The built-up shaft consists of a pipe AB and solid rod BC. The pipe has an inner diameter of 20 mm and outer diameter of 28 mm. The rod has a diameter of 12 mm. Determine the average normal stress at points D and E and represent the stress on a volume element located at each of these points.
4. The 150-kg bucket is suspended from end E of the frame.
Determine the average normal stress in the 6-mm diameter wire CF and the 15-mm diameter short strut BD. 5. The 150-kg bucket is suspended from end E of the frame. If the diameters of the pins at A and D are 6 mm and 10 mm, respectively, determine the average shear stress developed in these pins. Each pin is subjected to double shear. 6. The tension member is fastened together using two bolts, one on each side of the member as shown. Each bolt has a diameter of 7.5 mm. Determine the maximum load P that can be applied to the member if the allowable shear stress for the bolts is allow = 84MPa. and the allowable average normal stress is allow = 140MPa.
7. The frame is subjected to the load of 4 kN which acts on member
ABD at D. Determine the required diameter of the pins at D and C if the allowable shear stress for the material is allow = 40MPa. Pin C is subjected to double shear, whereas pin D is subjected to single shear.
