Budgeting is a valuable skill that will help you throughout the rest of your life.
Excel Spreadsheets can help you make budget calculations and format your
budget in an easy to read way.
Situation: You are married with two children, you are the primary breadwinner for your
family and you have many different expenses to pay. Given the following information of how
much you earn, how much your bills are and how much you spend on the children; determine a
monthly budget for your family and a yearly budget.
(Hint: Notice not all values are yearly/monthly).
Examples of Labels that can be used for your spreadsheet are as follows:
Monthly Income & Yearly Income (List your income here)
Monthly Expenses & Yearly Expenses (List all your expenses here, Use formulas to total
and calculate)
Surplus/Deficit for Month & Surplus/Deficit for the Year (Note: This is the difference
between income and expenses)
Remember
Use cell addresses when using formulas.
Format the spreadsheet to currency.
Include an appropriate title for your budget.
Formatting:
o Create a pie chart for the month expenses and add to Sheet 2. Be sure to include title.
o Change your page setup so that your spreadsheets are landscape, centered both
vertically and horizontally and include a footer with your name.
