DecisionSpace Geosciences 10ep.3.03 Release Notes
Beginning with DecisionSpace Geosciences 10ep.1, the interface was reorganized to present
the material you need when you need it. A video has been created on many of the changes in the
interface. You can access this video from the Welcome Page using the Getting Started video
button. See a list of user interface changes under DecisionSpace Base enhancements.
This DecisionSpace release uses OpenWorks 5000.10.5.0 or later. The installation on either
Windows or Linux platform includes the following enhancements that became available with the
DecisionSpace Geosciences 10ep.3 point release:
DecisionSpace SDK
Customers and third-parties can create custom plug-ins for DecisionSpace 10ep.3.03 software using the
DecisionSpace 10ep.3 SDK. See the DecisionSpace 10ep.3 SDK Developer Guide for detailed
instructions. (The DecisionSpace 10ep.3 SDK is a separate purchase and is not included in the
DecisionSpace software installations.)
Note: 5000.8.x versions of plug-ins need to be recompiled with the DecisionSpace 10ep.3 SDK to run in

Plotter Support
Quick Print
On Windows, the Quick Print option relies on the standard Windows File/Print mechanism. As long
as the printer has a properly installed Windows printer driver that conforms to the printing
mechanism of Windows, DecisionSpace software should support it. Most testing was performed
on Dell, Xerox, and HP small-format devices as well as on the wide-format HP T1100 and 4000
Designjets. If you miss some data while using the Quick Print option to wide-format HP devices,
try disabling the Send job as bitmap option of the driver.
On Linux, the Quick Print option relies on the Linux LP queue configured on the operating system.
PostScript data is sent to the LP queue. Only PostScript-enabled devices are supported when
using the Quick Print option on Linux.
ZEH Server
If you are submitting to a ZEH plot server, printers supported by the ZEH Plotting Solutions
software are supported. ZEH supports the following plotter makes:
Calcomp
Canon
EPSON
HP (PCL, RTL)
iSys
NeuraLog
Oc
OYO
PostScript printers
Versatec
Xerox
When using SDI software for plotter support, it is recommended that you use version R12.0 or
higher.
./LaunchDS.sh
Optional: You can also run DecisionSpace Geosciences by invoking it from the OpenWorks
Command Menu. Use the following procedure to start OpenWorks software:
echo $OWHOME
The terminal window readout should post the directory where OpenWorks software is
installed. If it does not, OpenWorks software is not installed, or your environment is not set
properly. Consult your system administrator.

General Usability and Performance
Layers view has been added to allow the user to reference what is being displayed in a
Map, Section, or Correlation view, as well as Print Preview. Currently, Well Lists and
Conditional Pies are supported in the Layers view.
Hardcopy Enhancements:
Print Preview now offers a Legend plot shape. The Legend currently supports Well
Lists, Selected Well Lists, Wells within a Line of Section (LOS), and Conditional Pie
data.
Run workflows to select picks, create zones, and convert core data into log curves for
further investigation with wireline or MWD data.
Use the new Petrophysics perspective to adjust the interface for petrophysical tasks.
Image Capture utility provides an easy, effective way to save and share images of
interpretations for use in presentations, drilling status documentation and approval reports,
and state regulatory documentation.
Calculator
Data Analysis
Ability to use Data Analysis on the Natural Fracture Network (NFN) simulation
GIS
Using a spatial filter with SDE data allows the creation of a subset of data that has been
previously loaded into the GIS Map Editor to be added to a session.
GIS has the option to size Feature Labels that are affixed to a specified map unit height.
This feature is only actively used in the DecisionSpace Map editor and is disabled for the
GIS Map and the Cube editor.
Graphics
Geomechanics
Multivariate Analysis
Framework Save a Copy behavior now performs a true Save as function, saving the
model as it exists in your session rather than its last-saved state.
Multi-user Frameworks allow entire asset team to load the same Framework and
simultaneously view the same dynamic subsurface representation in real time.
Interpreter ID rules now apply to Frameworks, allowing finer control over access to
Framework parameters.
If a framework is created with a private interpreter ID, that interpreter ID is the only
one which can make parameter (e.g. grid cell size, conformance, fault offset) changes
to the framework. Other simultaneous interpreter IDs can edit source data and load,
view, and refresh the framework, but cannot change framework parameters.
Each user can save a copy to their own interpreter ID with full access if they choose.
Frameworks can still be saved to public interpreter IDs with full access to all other
interpreter IDs.
Models well and field performance over the life of the asset.
Advanced gridding that conforms to complex fracture geometry, captures critical flow
phenomena by providing high resolution near-frac discretization and allows users to
change model geometry in seconds not days.
History matching.
Well-spacing optimization.
The plug-in is accessed separately from the Landmark Software Manager and has
independent release notes and installation instructions.
DecisionSpace Geology
Conditional Pies (point set) are now a query result option in the Search tool and
conditional pie display settings can be saved with the query.
Basic shapes (ellipse, circle, etc.) to use GeoShapers as a basic drawing tool.
Measurement options for all shapes with information displayed in associated tables.
Generate Difference Grids to create a difference grid between the saved grid and the
preview grid.
This lets you generate and save an initial grid/contour set and then a preview of a
grid/contour set where the parameters have changed.
To enhance the mapping workflow, users can now have confidence in where/how
the changed parameters are affecting their grid through automatic generation of a
difference grid.
Zone Manager qualifiers. Those map flags calculated from curve data statistics in
Zone Manager can be used as a category to quickly filter undesired values. This lets
you create a grid that is not skewed by low quality values and only represents values
that are accurate.
Display IL/XL and shot point values using the Section View Editors Borders and Grid
Lines panel.
Horizontal Well Segments let you split a wellbore into pieces in Correlation view
(Correlation View Editor > View Scale and Layout panel).
When correlating and geosteering wells that decrease in TVD but increase in MD,
users will now be able to break the well into sections that eliminate over posting of log
curves and make it easier to accurately interpret surfaces and geologic features.
Inter-well point annotation to display the surface name, interpreter ID, and depth value
with borders and fill and to specify where annotation is placed, relative to the symbol.
Log Curve Aliasing to display log curves that cover different depths but are actually the
same curve. From the Log Curve Display Properties dialog box, you can create a
hierarchical list of curves and define their individual display parameters.
Manage wells in Correlation to easily move, remove, and add wells in the view.
Slide a key well up and down in Correlation to compare its data with another well.
Static scaling of coordinate grids, providing the option to set the grid at a specified interval
in a section so that when you zoom in and out, the grid lines do not automatically resize
(Section View Editor > Borders and Gridlines panel)
Surface pick filter to choose a specific interpreter ID and see the number of wells
containing that surface pick using a check box in the Add Data dialog box.
Surface pick qualifier and annotations (Last update date and Last user) to update the pick,
especially useful for workflows where teams use the same Interpreter ID.
New Well Core data type, including ability to bulk shift core data and change display
properties
Enhancements to well symbol options and ability to have different symbols for top and
bottom hole
Curve Line Style and Scale Enhancements: easy to set the log curve line style and scale
for the log curves generated in the HWC workspace (Predicted, Filtered, Type Log, and
Projected curves).

Cube Enhancements:
Mouse Wheel Zoom now works in all mouse modes, including Arrow/Select, Hand/
Rotate, and Interpret/Edit
The <Alt> shortcut key to temporarily change mouse modes in the Cube is now bi-
directional. You can use it to temporarily enter Hand mode when you are in Arrow
mode. You can still use it to temporarily enter Arrow mode when you are in Hand
Mode.
The <Alt> shortcut key when used in conjunction with the Arrow (animation) keys will
increase the animation speed.
Cube Modes and Shortcut Key Quick Start Guide has been added to the Help menu.
New shortcut keys 0 and 1 (from the standard keyboard, not the keypad) which
will center the view on the center of a selected probe. This is especially useful for
box-probes where you can now easily rotate your view around the center of the
probe.
The F8 shortcut key in the Cube has been updated so that the scene cycles
through view orientations relative to inline/xline directions when a probe is
selected. (It still cycles through orientations relative to the compass directions
when a probe is not selected.) Shift + F8 now allows you to cycle through the
orientations in the reverse direction.
New Style Option for Probes: Seismic probes have a new display property called
Style. The options are opaque & transparent. When Style is set to transparent, the
probe will honor the opacity setting in the color bar. When Style is set to opaque, the
probe will ignore the opacity setting in the color map and display it without any
transparency.
New Opacity Setting for Volume Visualization Probes: For probes which are displayed
using either blending, RGB blending, or combo-mambo there is a new opacity setting
in the volume visualization section of the probe DPE. This allows you to set uniform
opacity value for these types of probes. In the past this was set by adjusting the
opacity of the base volume.
Seismic Probe Handles in the Cube have been improved in a number of ways,
including being less intrusive (flush to seismic, not Cubes), changing color as they are
selected, changing size as you zoom in/out, and turning off when a probe is
unselected.
DecisionSpace Microseismic
Conversion of microseismic events to point sets allows the use of data analysis and
multivariate analysis functionality to better interpret microseismic data. It allows the
combination of multiple stages from different wells for more meaningful analysis.
Horizontal Targeting Geosteering The horizontal targeting can now calculate the number
of waypoint targets required to stay within a defined range of depths. This will aid planners
by keeping the wellpath in the formation and maximizing production.
Target Assignment You can now MB3 your plan or target in the tables to assign targets
to plans. The Plans table option will list all targets within range, and you can sort by
distance, azimuth, and TVD from the surface location
Well Planning Inventory Organization Define the type of hazard, boundary, or target and
the inventory will automatically group them together.
eNotes Support eNotes has made the move to the 10ep Platform. It will no longer be a
separate install, a separate license is still required.
Replan selected sites Building upon the previous releases replan options, You can now
select one or more sites to replan your targets.
Azimuth column in Plans Table Users can add the azimuth column to the plans table to
rotate plans around their surface location to a new azimuth.
Reference Site location placement A reference site can be defined for the algorithm to
pattern around. This will aid in organizing the surface locations into rows and columns,
aiding in defining surface facilities.
DecisionSpace Base
General Usability and Performance
Cube Seismic Probe performance for Shared Memory volumes significantly improved
Only objects that can be hidden from Inventory can use the shortcuts (i.e., well lists
can use shortcuts, but individual wells can not)
Exception for 2D seismic lines -- middle-click (MB2) on a seismic line turns the
associated seismic data on or off, not the 2D line itself; application remembers last
middle-click action for 2D seismic lines.
Double-clicking over an object in the Map and Section enters Interpretation Mode,
similar to a Cube.
Interpretation Mode can still be entered in the Cube by using Shortcut Keys, the
Interpretation toolbar, or the Interpretation drop-down the Application toolbar.
New Display Properties dialog boxes have been added for Synthetic Seismic, 2D Line
Lists, and 3D Surveys.
You can rename an editor by right-clicking on the editor name tab, then selecting Rename.
You can also access rename editor tabs by selecting File > Rename Editor from the menu
bar.
You can customize the items shown in the Application toolbar and in the floating toolbars.
You can customize the items shown in the Tools icon menu for each Perspective.
You can use a command line prompt to open a session and define the editors that are
used in the session.

Plans to Shapefiles - You can now save Well Planning objects, including boundaries,
hazards and well plans, as to shapefiles for use in GIS. The new shapefiles are named in
three different ways: surface locations use the suffix _mk; trajectories use _ln; and targets,
hazards, and boundaries use _ply.
Wellbore Planner Plugin for Geoprobe/SeisWorks - Targets, plans, and sites created
within Geoprobe and SeisWorks are now synchronized in the Well Planning Inventory.
Rename Utility - The new Rename Utility allows users to perform a mass rename of Well
Planning objects, such as plans, targets, sites.
DS ADX Support - Well Planning supports connection to the new DS ADX tool to improve
data exchange with EDM and COMPASS data.
Wellbore Planner Target Report - A target report can be generated through the ASCII
export. This report shows the coordinates for your penetration point and corner points of
all targets in one well.
ASCII Import Optimization - Workflows that involve the import of targets and sites have
been optimized. In a previous release the target import could assign targets to plans. Now,
Sites can be imported with slot names. This is further improved by matching the targets
and plans to a slot if the slot and plan names matched, drastically improving data import.
Replan Selected Plans - Select plans in the Well Planning inventory, change the
parameters in Multi Well Planning, and replan targets, plans, and sites to generate a new
trajectories.
Behind Fault Improvements - In the behind fault workflow the plan azimuth trends to the
average dip azimuth. This difference in Listric faults can place your targets closer to the
fault than initially planned. Two additional options have been added to address this:
Project Laterally, rotates your target around the fault plane and the section line
intersection to be perpendicular to the fault plane.
Project Sectionally, moves your target along the section line so that it is the min
distance from the fault in a 3D scan. This allows the targets to be snapped
perpendicular to the wellpath and maintain the minimum offset distance.
Scan Options - You can now automatically or manually scan plans for failures in buffers
and limits with hazard, boundary, and redline parameters. When set to automatic a dialog
pops up warning you of the failure as it occurs.
DecisionSpace Base
General Usability and Performance
A new Welcome page displays when you first start the application. This page has links to
videos and help topics on Perspectives, Sessions, Getting Started for new
DecisionSpace Geoscience users, and three Whats New videos on the new look and
feel. Landmark suggests that you review the video on perspectives as well as view the list
of Landmark created perspectives and the description of each. The Sessions video tells
new users about sessions as well as demonstrates the new Sessions task pane.
The application is built around Perspectives. Perspectives are a set of tools that are
required to perform your workflow. For example, a geologist uses a different set of tools
than a drilling engineer. The active perspective determines the list of tools displayed in the
Tools icon menu. Each perspective has a default set of interpretation task panes.
Creating a Session, Opening an Existing Session, and Importing a Session dialog boxes
have been simplified. The major change is that you will need to choose a perspective
when creating a new session.
The Tools menu has been broken into two parts. There is a new Utilities menu that
contains items that are common to all perspectives. Tools that are used by one or a few
perspectives are accessed from the Tools icon on the Application Toolbar.
A new search feature called Quick Access is available on the toolbar. If you want to use a
tool that is not in your perspective toolkit, or you cannot find the tool, type the tool name in
the Quick Access text box then select the tool from the list provided.
Standard click, Ctrl+click, and Shift+click functionality has been implemented throughout
the application.
The Select Session Data dialog box has been changed to the Add Data dialog box and
has been redesigned. The third Whats New video shows you the new dialog box.
The view tools bars that were located on the left side of the view, have been changed to
floating toolbars in the editors. The icons available in the toolbars are dependent on the
editor (Cube, Map, etc.) and the active Perspective. There is a demonstration of the new
toolbars in the second Whats New video.
16-bit shared memory volumes has been added which allows users to load higher
resolution data into shared memory. This is useful for interpreting high resolution data,
such as seismic attributes, where traditional 8-bit shared memory volumes do not have
enough precision.
High Definition (HiDef) Color - High Definition (HiDef) color allows the color map to
represent the true resolution at the data at the color fidelity supported by the graphics
hardware.
Using the 8-bit color map, input values are mapped into 256 discrete bins. Each
discrete bin maps to a specific 32-bit color (RGBA). In some cases, two different
values can lie in the same bin, where they map to the same RGB Color
In HiDef color, thumbs are used to define a transfer function that is used to map
input values to a 32bit color that is interpolated in the range between two thumbs.
Using HiDef color, even close input values map to separate colors. GPU-based
interpolation ensures system performance. The Inventory Tree task pane has been
extensively redesigned.
A new task pane called sessions has been added. It is in the icon group on the left side of
the workspace. This shows you all the sessions you have been in and provides a list of
sessions you have uses, a list of all the editors in each sessions, and a thumbnail graphic
of each of the editors.
Several new items have been added to help you get started in the application.
Dynamic Help provides information on the active tab. Select Help > Dynamic Help
from the menu bar. When you click on another tab, the Dynamic Help changes to
reflect the active tab.
Workflows have been reworked and many more are available. Select Help > Workflow
Guide from the menu bar. A list of all the workflows is listed if you click on the
Contents link.
Many new videos have been created. Some are available in the help system while
others are available from a server.
Views have been renamed to editors (for example, Map Editor, Section Editor).
The toolbars associated with an editor are no longer on the left side of the editor.
Instead they are floating and you can place them anywhere inside the editor.
Task panes are represented by icons on the left and right side of the window.
The icons are put into groupings; each group has a restore icon above the group.
Click the restore icon and the task panes are docked.

NFN persistence
When creating an NFN fracture slice, a dialog will appear where the user can select to
automatically inherit the fracture network data range and colormap in order for the fracture
slice properties to match exactly the ones for the fracture properties. The latter is needed
since the fracture network and the fracture slice have different property ranges and it
saves the user several steps when trying to match the colormap and data range.
Fracture tooltips display various types of information on the fractures and related
properties
The fracture set ID display interleaves the interval ID and the fracture set ID in order to
identify fracture objects from different intervals and to be able to map it to the colormap
display. The integer part of the property value is the interval and the decimal part
represents the fracture set ID on the colormap.
Fracture Network objects and fracture slice objects can display Element properties

being an issue to users. This list does not include all the known problems of Geosciences
software.
Defect ID Summary
Add Data Dialog Using Filter in Add Data pane does not show all data types: When you type
Box in a filter item, e.g. seismic, some of the seismic data types are not displayed.
In these instances, you must delete the filter and find the data type in the data
tree.
Display Cube View: If you ever run into the issue that Cube View is not responding to
turn on/off objects from Inventory, clone the Cube View and close the non-
responding one.
Online Help New Terminology: The terminology has changed for major parts of the
DecisionSpace Geosciences work area. The graphical views are now called
editors. The task panes are now called views (Window > Show View). The
documentation will continue using the term task panes for the Inventory, Color
Bar, and interpretation panels. Documentation is in the process of confirming
that the correct names are used throughout the documentation. However, this
process is not finished.
Online Help Dynamic Help: The Dynamic Help is connected to all the editors and most of
the task panes. There are a few task panes and links that are not working
properly. Among these are the Single Well Info task pane, Well Layout task
pane, and Fault Tracking task pane.
Online Help Help Buttons: A few of the help buttons are not connected to the help topics.
DecisionSpace DecisionSpace Petrophysics Installation: The version of the DecisionSpace
Petrophysics Petrophysics installer that is bundled with the DecisionSpace package does
Installation not include the .Net install. Users who do not already have .Net version 4.5.2
should install this separately before running the DSG 10ep. installer including
DS Petrophysics OR running the independent DS Petrophysics installer found
in the bundles support folder.
Secondary Secondary Platform Testing: Secondary platforms received only limited
Platform Testing testing for DecisionSpace Geosciences 10ep.3. Testing of these platforms is
continuing post-release. Issues found will be addressed in subsequent
releases.

287214 Configuration Message Window Opens Improperly: Open the Window >
Preferences > DecisionSpace Settings > Memory Configuration pane, do not
make any changes, and click OK. You may receive a message box that says
New values are set and will take effect after the application restarts. This
occurs the first time you enter this panel on Linux computers under certain
circumstances.
295089 Session Synchronization and Restore: Unable to rename an Editor using
the File > Rename menu for the same session displayed in two instances of
the application.
884840 (PS) Invalid Character When Parenthesis in Path: If the application is installed
into a location with a path that results in using parentheses ( ), the application
may not start. If the parentheses occur within the first eight characters, the
launch scripts interpret the parentheses as the part of the logic of the launch
script. If the parenthesis occurs after the eighth character, it is ignored by the
launch scripts.

307876 Right-click menu on Dynamic Help video links: If you right click on a video
link in Dynamic Help in Linux, you get an Input Methods item in the menu. This
feature is not implemented.
308124 Error when launching DecisionSpace Geosciences: When you launch the
application and receive the following message An error has occurred. See the
log file Users/UserID/Landmark/DecisionSpace/
WorkspaceNameandDataLaunched/.metadata.log then your workspace has
become corrupted. You must go to Users/UserID/Landmark/DecisionSpace
and delete the Workspace. You will lose some Preference settings when you
delete the workspace. A possible cause for this is editing the files in the
Workspace/.metadata directory. It is important that these files not be edited.
314700 Deleting a Session: It is important that you delete sessions from the Sessions
task pane. If you delete the session from the
c:\Users\UserId\Landmark\DecisionSpace\UserSessions directory instead of
deleting from the Sessions task pane, you will not be able to import the session
again.
314703 Launch from command line: If you enter the command -editor when
launching the application from a command line, the editors open during the last
session will be opened even though you did not specify which editors to open.

are referenced from the elevation of the corresponding well. For such point
sets, if you select the TVD field as the Z Position field in the Point Set Display
Properties dialog box, the points will be positioned incorrectly in Cube view. If
available, choose the SSTVD or TVDSS field instead.
183931 (918625 Well Query Tool (Renamed Search): If the total depth of a well is greater
PS) than the last point in the wells position log, the X/Y values for the point set for
that well will be determined from the well headers X Coord BH and Y Coord
BH rather than being extrapolated from the last few points of the position log. If
those values in the well header are incorrect, the point set generated by the
tool will display in an incorrect location for that well.
276992 (954873 Lithology Symbols: Lithology symbols do not auto scale in very thin
PS) interpretation intervals.
297787 Point Sets in Bubble Mapping: The bubble map disappears if the point set is
toggled off in a Cube.
299774 Saved Sessions on Windows 7 and Windows 10: When using a mixture of
Windows 7 and Windows 10 systems and saved sessions in a network
location through the use of LGC_DATA_HOME, surface picks created and
saved to a session do not turn on/off in the Section View using the Inventory
tree.
Workaround: click the Restore button of the Single Well Info panel. This docks
the panel.
315099 (957499 Grid and Contour Interpretation: Interactive contour-to-grid does not work.
PS)
316333 GeoShell Display: Sluggish geoshells display in Section View so much so that
the application may appear to be hung
323293 Strat Columns and Strat Units from StratWorks: User must exit DSG and
start a new session or restore a saved session in order to see changes made
to Strat Column/Strat Unit edited and saved in StratWorks.
326366 Framework Algorithms: Algorithms Kriging Isotropic and Anisotropic from
FW is taking more than 5 times longer to run than the rest.
332366 Well Symbol Display: Well Symbols do not display with Status color in LOD-2.
When Scale Dependencies (LOD-2) is activated, you will notice that well
symbols display with the default path color instead of the status
333154 (958485 Gridding with Polygons: When using a polygon in Grid and Contour, the
PS) gridding close to the edges of the polygon is not smooth.
349428 Inter-Well Point Display: Inter-Well Points display outside the canvas in
CGM.
350041 Performance: Predictive Curve generation
352637 Well Pick Interpretation: Unable to interpret multiple occurrences of the same
well pick in Drag Picks Edit mode after using the Slip Well mode.
353167 Grid and Contour Labels in Print Preview: No contour labels show in Print
Preview if Contour Color Fill is checked in Grid and Contour.
353227 Well Selection: When Show Segments is on, adding wells using the Select
Wells icon may fail or put the selected wells in the wrong location in the
Correlation view.
358345 Launching Well Data Manager inside DecisionSpace Geosciences:
Launching Well Data Manager from withing DecisionSpace Geosciences
causes session files to be created in the WellDataManager folder instead of
DecisionSpace.
