Rafter-Column Bracing Design

The document provides details for designing the rafter and column bracing for a building with dimensions of 105m x 40m. It calculates the wind forces and determines that rafter bracing with a 65x65x6 angle section and column bracing with a 75x75x6 angle section are required. The load calculations verify that the selected angle sections are safe based on their dimensions, effective length, and permissible stress values.

Design of Rafter Bracing

Length of Building = 105.00 m

Width of Building = 40.00 m
Bay Spacing = 7.0 m C/C
End Wall Spacing = 6.0 m C/C
Clear Height = 7.55 m
Eaves Height = 9.00 m
Brick Wall Height = 7.55 m
Wind Pressure = 115.00 kg/m2
Wind Coeff on Roof = 1.14
Wind Coeff on Wall = 0.90
Slope = 10 (1:10)
Number of Joints = 8 nos
Number of Sets = 4 nos

### Total Gable Wind Force = 115 x 0.9 x [0.5 x (40/2)x(40/(2x10)) + (40 / 2)x( 9 - 7.55 ) ]

= 5071.50 Kg

Considering connection of Gable Columns with Gable Rafter as fixed,

= 0.625 * 5071.50 = 3169.7 Kg is transferred in base of gable columns

and the rest of force which is 1901.8 Kg is transferred into rafter bracing.

Force per Joint = 1901.81 = 237.7 Kg

### Maximum force in Rafter = 22.80 T

Maximum moment in Rafter = 101.10 T-m

Lever Arm = 1262 mm = 1.26 m

Total force = (22.8 + 101.1/1.26) x 1000 x 0.075 = 7727.9 Kg

Force per Joint = 7728 = 966.0 Kg

### Frictional Drag for Rafter Bracing Joint = 105 x (40/2)x0.025x115x1.14

8x4

= 222.0 Kg
Total Force Per Joint = 237.7 + 966.0 + 221.97 = 1425.68 Kg

Permissible Stress in Axial Compression (As Per IS : 800 Table - 5.1)

Pac = 35 N/mm2

### Reaction From Rafter Bracing = 1425.67 kgs

Total Force per Joint = 1425.67 + 512.81 - 118.86

Force in Bracing F = R / Cos Q

Length of the Diagonal = 10.29 m

Cos Q = 0.68

Force in Bracing F = 1819.62 / 0.68
