    The Titanic was the biggest ship in the world. It was constructed in Britain and sailed from Southampton on its maiden voyage to New York in 1912. Many did not believe it was possible for the ship to sink. Rich passengers stayed in wonderful cabins and danced in beautiful lounges, using plates and glasses decorated with gold. Poorer passengers did not have access to these things, staying in smaller cabins and walking around the lower deck, where they danced, laughed and smoked. On April 15th, 1912 it became very foggy and the Titanic crashed into an iceberg, sinking within hours and causing over 1,500 passengers and crew to die.

    4. When the Titanic sank, there were approximately


    2,222 people on board (included passengers and
    crew), and only 705 survived.
