Scholarships for Studies in United Kingdom:
The Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund
The Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund (TSCSF) was established as a registered charity in
1997. Under various Masters programmes, TSCSF offers postgraduate students from
developing countries the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands,
and gain skills that will make a long-term contribution to the further development of their
countries. Each year nearly 90 students will be given major scholarships (for one year in the
UK, and for two years in NL). Partners in the scheme are the University of Cambridge,
Durham University, The University of Edinburgh, Imperial College London, University of
Leeds, The University of Oxford and University College London in the UK, and with Delft
University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology and University of Twente in
the Netherlands. These universities also contribute to the funding of scholarships. The

Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, Cambridge Overseas Trust and Cambridge
Livingstone Trust
Eligibility:
The trust offers scholarships and part-time bursaries to outstanding students from overseas
who, without help, would be unable to take their places at Cambridge. Students must already
have been accepted for admission by the University. Scholarships are normally attached to
particular countries, levels of study and in some cases to specific areas of study.
Contact:
Details of scholarships for different countries, variations in application procedures and values
of particular scholarships can be found under the relevant country heading in a booklet
available from the trust at the address below

The trusts do not provide maintenance allowances for dependants. Bursaries are available to
students irrespective of their nationality. Accordingly, applicants from countries not specified
under the scholarship scheme will normally be eligible to be considered for a part-cost
bursary. The value of the bursary will be a partial contribution towards the costs of study at
Cambridge and is determined according to the financial circumstances of each candidate.
How to apply:
Further details can be obtained from the above address. The trust states that since there are
many more applications than awards available, students should apply for every other form of
financial assistance open to them, including UK Government awards, Cambridge College
awards and awards from sources in their home countries.

Rhodes Scholarships
The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships, were initiated after the death
of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and bring outstanding students from many countries around the
world to the University of Oxford.
The Rhodes Scholarships are investments in individuals rather than in project proposals.
Accordingly, applications are sought from talented students without restriction as to their
field of academic specialization or career plans although the proposed course of study must
be available at Oxford, and the applicant’s undergraduate program must provide a sufficient
basis for further study in the proposed field. Through the years, Rhodes Scholars have
pursued studies in all of the varied fields available at the University of Oxford. Rhodes
Scholars are elected for two years of study at the University of Oxford, with the possibility of
renewal for a third year, which requires application to and express approval of the Rhodes
Trustees. Rhodes Scholars may pursue a one-year degree, diploma, or certificate in the first
instance, as long as it is part of a plan for two or three years of Oxford study involving a
5
subsequent degree course. Rhodes Scholars may not, however, apply in the first instance for
an MBA.
Costs covered:
All educational costs, such as tuition, laboratory and certain other fees are paid on the
Scholar’s behalf by the Rhodes Trustees. Each Scholar receives in addition a maintenance
allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations. The Rhodes
Trustees cover the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford, and upon application, may
approve additional grants for research purposes or study-related travel.
Eligibility:
Students from Pakistan holding a First Class Bachelors Degree in Arts or Science from any
Pakistani university and aged 19 - 25, on 1st October can apply.
Method of Application:
Applications forms available from Secretary, Rhodes Trust Scholarship Selection Committee
for Pakistan, P.O. Box No. 2939, Islamabad
Selection Criteria:
Academic and all round qualities of candidate are taken into account; personal interviews are
held.

Scholarships for Studies in German:
DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service
The German Academic Exchange Service is one of the world's largest and most respected
intermediary organisations in its field. Scores of students, teachers, researchers and scientists
supported by the DAAD have been able to gain valuable experience abroad. However, there
are also many other sides to the work of the DAAD.
Support
Studying or researching at a German higher education institution needs to be properly
financed. Public (state-maintained) universities in Germany do not generally charge tuition
fees. Some Master's programmes and the additional fees charged by some of the federal states
are exceptions to this rule.
There will be costs to face, whether for books, rent or just general living expenses. A
scholarship or grant may be the answer for those who don't have the necessary financial
resources. Various sources of financial support are available. A look at the DAAD
scholarship database will show what is on offer. But remember, numerous other institutions
and organisations can also help with one’s plans. The information is there for one to use.

and 12 months; an extension of up to 24 months is possible. Funding is not available for
short-term study visits, participation in conferences, or training courses.
The research fellowships are announced internationally, on a competitive basis. Researchers
from developing countries are eligible to apply. There are no quotas in respect of country or
discipline. The subject of the research proposal must be of relevance to development policy
and particularly suited to the transfer of knowledge and methods to developing countries.
Approx. 50 research fellowships are available every year.
Decisions are based primarily on the quality and feasibility of academic projects proposed by
candidates as well as the applicant's academic record to date. Applicants choose their own
research projects and their own German hosts. Details of the research project and the time-
schedule must be agreed upon with the prospective host in advance.

Scholarships for studies in Netherland:
Nuffic - the Netherlands organization for international cooperation in higher
education
The Dutch government is attempting to make Dutch higher education as accessible as
possible to students and mid-career from other countries. Higher education is subsidized,
which means that tuition fees can be kept relatively low, especially compared with countries
like the United Kingdom and the United States.
NFP Master’s, NFP Short Courses and NFP PhD award fellowships to individuals. NFP
Tailor Made finances tailor-made training courses that are designed to meet the specific
training needs of an organization in one of the NFP countries. NFP Refresher Courses
finances courses for NFP alumni who would like to prolong the effect of earlier learning and
update their knowledge and skills.
More information about NFP
More information about NFP, including the application forms, are available at Netherlands
embassies and consulates or from Nuffic’s website: www.nuffic.nl/nfp.
Applicants for PhD studies, master’s degree programmes or short courses must first gain
academic admission to the course of their choice before applying for a fellowship through the
Netherlands embassy or consulate in their country. Also, they can only apply for an NFP
fellowship if the course is on the NFP course list for that particular year.
In all cases, applicants are advised to contact the Netherlands embassy or consulate well in
advance for specific instructions, and to inquire about specific local procedures and
deadlines, requirements and selection criteria. These may differ from the general information
provided on Nuffic’s website or in the brochures.

The Dutch Minister for Education, Culture and Science has made four million euros available
for international students coming to the Netherlands under the HSP Huygens programme.
There is no fixed number of available scholarships, but the actual number is determined by
the total cost of the variable components of the scholarships. Dutch studies candidates must
meet the same criteria as all other candidates.

Scholarships for studies in Norway:
Most Norwegian institutions have various bilateral agreements with foreign institutions of
higher education. These agreements are usually designed for the mutual exchange of students,
researchers and teachers. However, there are national programmes that offer scholarships and
other types of funding for international students wishing to study in Norway. Certain
restrictions and prerequisites apply for all these programmes. In addition, there are various
stipends available offered by private and non-profit organisations
NORAD
The Norad Fellowship Programme provides scholarships for students from developing
countries to study Masters and Diploma programmes in Norway. The Norad Fellowship
Programme is based on a vision that good educational opportunities at Norwegian
universities and university colleges can contribute to increased competence in the South.
Most of the courses in the programme are held in Norway and run over a period of two years.
All courses are considered to hold a high academic standard.
The courses are part of the regular international programme of the institutions, and are
offered in various academic fields. The Norad Fellowship programme also includes courses
given outside Norway. Courses are offered at institutions in South Africa, Mozambique,
Tanzania and Malawi. Around 110 students are accepted into the programme every year. The
annual application deadline is December 1. To learn more about the Norad Fellowship
Programme and find out if one is eligible to apply, visit the website of The Norwegian Centre
for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU).
Quota Scheme
The Norwegian government provides scholarships for students from developing countries and
countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia through the Quota Scheme. The objective of the
scheme is to promote the internationalization of higher education. Currently, the scheme
provides full scholarships for a total of 1,100 students, of which 800 are from developing
countries and 300 from Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Each year universities and university colleges in Norway are allocated a certain number of
quota students. The scheme normally includes courses taught in English at Masters and Ph.D.
level, in addition to certain professional degrees. In order to find out which courses are
available under the scheme, institutions must be contacted directly.
