Industry Visit at Chandrapur HVDC Substation, MSETCL
Students of M.Tech (IPS) first and third semester Department of Electrical Engineering visited to
Chandrapur HVDC substation on 10/10/2015. As it is part of syllabus in the M,Tech(IPS)
students were benefited by the practical knowledge about the HVDC transmission at the visit. As
outage was going on the substation students could see the all important parts of the substation
like valve house or converter hall. Visit is organized by Prof.H.S.Dalvi with the help of
Mr.Jayant Kokate (Executive engineer) of the Substation. Mr.Vinayak and Mr, Makrand helped
to guide the students and gave some important information about substation. Total 32 students
were present during the visit with faculty Prof.H.S.dalvi, Prof R.H.Adware, Prof.S.Meshram,
Prof.K.Chouhan and Prof.Trinath.
Industrial visit to Purti Sugar Plant

The Visit at Purti Sugar Plant is Arranged on 31st March 2016 for IInd sem M-tech IPS students.
The visit was conducted in three segments as follows.

SUGAR PRODUCTION

This TCD produces sugar as well as the fuel for electricity production in the form of bagasse. It
also produces bio- diesel, ethanol and bio-fertilizers. It has 46 centers for sugarcane development
and production.

POWER GENERATION
We have visited Bagasse based co-generation power plant of 24.45 MW which uses sugarcane
waste as its fuel. Looking at the dire need for electricity in the country, they have started this by-
product based industry as a step towards Non-conventional energy and production of electricity
on a commercial basis. The power generated is sold to MSEB.

DISTILLERY
While making sugar from sugarcane an industrial waste, Molasses is formed. Ethanol & Alcohol
is made using this molasses. They have beside sugar production 120 KLPD capacity distillery
plant is established in the company premises for Ethanol production & 90 KLPD production
capacity of E.N.A. & R.S.

BHU SURAKSHA ORGANIC BIO-FERTLIZER

Press Mud is a by-product is generated while producing sugar. It contains a high percentage of
organic nitrogen, phosphate and potassium. Organic Bio-Fertilizers is produced from this press
mud as well as spent wash produced in the production of ethanol and alcohol. This fertilizer has
proved to be immensely useful in protecting the soil. This fertilizer is sold to the cane producing
farmers.

The visit would not be possible without a support of management and great help given by
Prof H S Dalvi and HOD Dr. P. M. Diagavane.
