SAFETY STANDARDS
Behave in a mature and responsible manner at all
times in the laboratory or wherever chemicals are
stored or handled.

Students must follow all verbal & written


instructions carefully. If you are unsure of the
procedure, ask your teacher or lab assistant for
help before proceeding.
SAFETY STANDARDS
Students should not touch any equipment or chemicals
unless specifically instructed to do so.

Do not eat, drink, apply cosmetics or chew gum in the


lab. Wash hands thoroughly after participating in any lab
activities.

Students must perform only those experiments authorised by


the teacher. Bringing any chemicals and/or glassware out of
and into the lab for any use will be treated similarly.
SAFETY STANDARDS
Keep your work space clean
and tidy. Work surfaces are
to be cleaned at the end of
each lab/activity.
Permission from teacher/lab
assistants must be obtained
before equipment is left
assembled. All equipment
must always be disassembled
at the end of your lab period.
SAFETY STANDARDS
Books & other items are to remain in an area designated by
the instructor.

Solids, broken glass, and other materials designated by the


instructor are to be deposited in the proper waste containers,
NOT in the sink. Follow the instructors directions.

Sinks are to be used for the disposal of water & those


solutions designated by the instructor.
SAFETY STANDARDS

Glassware is to be washed with soapy water &


(when necessary) scrubbed with the appropriate
brush, rinsed, dried, and returned to its original
location.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Safety glasses, goggles, face shield,
and shoes must be worn at all
times. Sandals or open-toed
shoes are NOT to be worn
during lab activities

Work is not permitted in the


laboratory outside of the
designated lab hours. You must
never work in a laboratory
alone.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Lab coat must be worn buttoned-up during practical work and it
should be appropriate to the students size. Do NOT wear shorts,
(pants or skirt), loose or baggy clothing or dangling jewellery.

Hair (longer than ear-length) must be tied back and tuck into the
collar of the coat. Acrylic nails are also a safety hazard near heat
sources.

When an activity requires the use of laboratory gloves for hand


protection, the gloves shall be appropriate for the hazard & worn
throughout the activity.
PERSONAL SAFETY

All accidents, chemical spills, and injuries must be


reported immediately to the instructor, no matter
how trivial they may seem at the time.

Know the location of all safety equipments in


the room.
