Interstage Sealing Strip

Dresser-Rand has developed a modification to the aluminum sealing strips on the fixed stator vane
assemblies for axial compressor that will reduce down time and repair cost.

The standard practice to peen the inner shroud to hold the sealing strip in place (figure1) has been modified.
With this modification, the old inner shroud has been machined off and a new inner shroud ring will be
welded to the fixed stator vane assembly (figure 2). The inner shroud ring will then be machined to accept a
removable sealing strip. This modification can be performed on existing stator vanes, and allows the inner
seal to be reliably and easily installed into position.
