Steamer Test Description

The Steamer test will run in parallel with the washer test program starting from step C1 up to step C3 according to the diagram below.
In summary the test of the steamer consists of activating the heater without water for 30s and detect the temperature increase though the NTC, confirming that the steam
heater element, NTC, fuses and cables are working properly. Then turn off the heater and turn on the steam valve by 1 minute and detect that the valve is working by
verifying the temperature decrease due to cooling effect of water injected into the steamer tube.
If any failure is detected during the Steamer test, the test program will be interrupted and the appropriate failure will be displayed according to the failure table.

Appliance does not spin => If motor is running:

Appliance does not spin Unbalance measurement can lead to repeated laundry distribution ramps to come down
under certain conditions with measured unbalance. Depending on the model it can be a high number of retrials.
This is necessary to avoid mechanical damages of the appliance due to spinning with
Poor spinning too high unbalance. If it is not possible to reach an acceptable unbalance level with the
performance / high distribution retrials, the appliance will not spin.
rest moisture content Small loads and especially single pieces are more critical than middle and large loads
=> check with customer for load conditions instruct customer
Long wash cycle In case of selecting Drain&Spin-Program, the unbalance measurement is more critical,
because information from the wash cycle is missing. Therefor is a higher probability for
retrials in the distribution ramps and eventually for failing spinning at all. Check with
customer, if Drain&Spin-Cycle was selected or if a complete washing program was
selected.
Check situation for water ring or foam see next points from Foam routine
Mains frequency variation can have negative impact on unbalance detection. If the
frequency variation is limited to a short period, it will lead to additional retrials for
distribution. In case of permanent frequency variation, it can lead to no spinning after
number of retrials is expired.

b) Undervoltage / Brown out

Some appliances (only newest control unit generation of Wave, production start Q2/2010 or
later) have this feature implemented. When the mains voltage is becoming too low, normally
the appliance goes to a failure mode because motor, drain pump or valve do not work
anymore. The possible failure modes are Motor/Tacho Failure F06, Drain Failure F03 or Fill
failure F01.
The Brown out function wants to avoid this. If the mains voltage is too low (range is 192V to
180V depending on fluctuation), the appliance stops and waits until mains voltage is back
again in the proper range to continue the cycle.

Too Long Heat Time, too low temperature increase during heating
If the water temperature is not increasing over 35C during 40 min. of the first heating step
in the cycle the CCU will display this Error.

Potential Causes
Check the electrical resistance of the Heater (ca. 22 - 30Ohm). => If out of this range,
then replace heater.
Check Wire Harness connections to the Heater, NTC and CCU. => Plug correctly. If
harness defect, then replace harness.
Check the electrical resistance of the NTC (20C = ca. 14,8kOhm, 30C = ca.
9,8kOhm, 40C = ca. 6,6kOhm).
Failure can also occure, when NTC resistance is not changing with temperature
=> check NTC by immersing into hot water, after some sec. resistance change must
be visible. => If NTC is defect, then replace heater with NTC.
Check CCU operation (ca. 230V on heater). => Run test program. If the water level is
higher than the working level and the CCU doesnt deliver ca. 230V at the heater
connector in the test program, then replace the CCU.
Check points for F08 and F12 for Heater circuit failure.
If inlet water temperature is very low and the load is very high it might be possible that
the failure is shown without component defect. => Run test program. If the heater
works in test program, then instruct customer.
Steamer appliances: check proper function of external heater relay.
=> Plug connectors correctly. If the harness is defect, then replace it.
=> If the external heater relay is defect, then replace it.

Water Temperature Sensor Error

If the water temperature sensor is out of range, F05 is displayed.
The lower resistance limit is ca. 0,9kOhm which corresponds to a temperature above 100C
and the upper resistance limit is ca. 41kOhm which corresponds to a temperature below
0C.

Potential Causes
In cases of extreme temperature conditions it might be possible, that the failure is
shown without defect component.
Check the Water NTC resistance with and without water in the wash unit (ca. 20C =
14,8kOhm, 30C = 9,8kOhm, 40C = 6,6kOhm). => If the NTC is defect, then replace
the heater incl. NTC.
Check wiring and connections to NTC and CCU. => Plug correctly. If the harness is
defect, then replace it
NTC short circuit (NTC or wiring to NTC): appliance is dead at switch on read failure
code from EEROM: class B failure (F60-63). => Replace harness or heater incl. NTC
resp.
If the failure code from the EEPROM is read out with NTC cable unplugged, it is
possible that F05 is stored as last failure, but just because the NTC cable was
unplugged during initialization of Control Unit.

Drum does not rotate Drive Motor Error or Tachometer Error

The failure is declared when the CCU expects a speed signal coming from the tachometer
of the Motor, but there is no tacho feedback or unreadable tacho signal.
If the Motor can not turn due to Motor defect, if the Motor is blocked / stalled or if the motor
can not run due to open motor harness connection, the failure code is also F06, because
the Control unit can not distinguish between missing tacho signal due to missing motor
movement and missing tacho signal due to defect tachometer or open tacho wiring.

Potential Causes
F06 is also used for Check wire harness connections between the Motor and CCU (and Motor Control Unit,
appliances with CIM / if available) => plug correctly; if harness damaged, replace harness.
BPM / Direct Drive Check Motor internal wires => if internal wires defect: change motor.

supplier)
Resistance of windings between 0,6Ohm and 6Ohm (depending on Motor and Motor
supplier) => if resistances out of SI range: change motor.
Check for drum blockage (also laundry can block the drum), noise or friction during
drum rotation => remove reason for blockage.
Check condition of Motor brushes (damages, worn brushes, blocked springs, loose fit,
broken) and sparking of Motor brushes (during wash and rinse only little sparking
allowed), inspect collector (surface must be even, no segments lift off, clean collector
with pumice stone)
=> replace the brushes, if collector ok
=> replace Motor, if collector not ok
Check for water traces on the Motor and Motor connector, check for water leakages
=> remove reason for water leakages and replace motor and motor harness.
Check the mechanical drive system:
- quality and tension of belt =>replace the belt or/and correct the belt tension,
- fixation of Motor => fix the motor,
- fixation of drum pulley => fix the drum pulley.
If Motor does not run and resistance of all windings and tacho are ok as well as
harness connections are ok => replace CCU (Universal motor) or Motor Control Unit
(CIM drive system)

If failure is not permanent / not reproducible reason can be:

Especially if mixed with random F07, but also if only F06: check harness wires to Motor
and Motor internal wires for internal intermitted interruption (wire insulation still ok, but
strands inside broken)
Activation of thermal protector of Motor (e.g. after drum blockage or due overload with
several consecutive cycles and/or heavy load and/or high ambient temperature >40C)

Motor Control Triac Error

The CCU has detected a short circuit in the motor control triac.
If the Motor triac is damaged, the failure is permanent and reproducible.

Potential Causes
Check CCU by running Test Program
F07 is also used for If failure is permanent:
appliances with CIM / For appliances with Universal motor: replace CCU
BPM / Direct Drive
For appliances with CIM drive system: replace Motor Control Unit
drive system (external
Motor Control Unit)
If failure is not permanent / not reproducible reason can be:
Check the mechanical drive system:
- quality and tension of belt => replace the belt or/and correct the belt tension,
- fixation of Motor => fix the motor,
- fixation of drum pulley => fix the drum pulley.
Especially if mixed with random F06, but also if only F07: check harness wires to Motor
and Motor internal wires for internal intermitted interruption (wire insulation still ok, but
strands inside broken)
A strong undervoltage situation / fluctuating mains voltage might create also F07 since
the control gives more power to the motor to make it starting. If suddenly the motor
starts up and goes fast up in speed it can run into the F07 failure detection.

If heater has open circuit and strong calcification layer => replace heater and instruct
customer to use more detergent (dosage according detergent manufacturer
recommandation for water hardness, soil level and load size).
If heater has open circuit and strong soil level => replace heater and instruct customer
to use pre-wash and adequate detergent dosage in case of very dirty laundry
Foam can lead to open fuse of heater: => replace heater.
If strong foam was available => instruct customer to use less detergent (dosage
according detergent manufacturer recommandation for water hardness, soil level and
load size)
To check for remaining detergent deposits in washer (which can generate repeated
failure of open fuse):
Start cotton cycle without laundry and detergent (select lowest possible temperature).
Check for foam generation under this condition for 10 min.
If no foam available: cancel cycle
If foam available: instruct customer to finish cycle in order to rinse appliance and use
adequate detergent dosage in future.

Steamer appliance: check for proper function of separate heater relay => replace
separate heater relay or regarding harnesses.

If with all these checks no failure can be found:

For F12: If no failure can be detected, recommandation is to change the heater.

The insulation resistance of the heater can be reduced under certain conditions like long
wash cycles and is not easily reproducible after the heater has dried.

For F08: If F08 indication is not permanent / not reproducible, replace CCU with latest
version (Software improvement after September 09).

General investigations for Failures around Doorlock:

Potential Causes

CCU can not switch off anymore the doorlock

- Close the door and switch ON the appliance
- Do NOT press the start button
- Check if the door gets locked in this condition => If yes, press cancel/reset button for more
than 3 sec. and switch OFF the appliance. Wait until the doorlock is unlocked
again (several min.). When unlocked, open and close door.
- Switch ON the appliance, but again do NOT press the start button
- If the doorlock is locked after some sec. without having the start button pressed
=> the CCU is defect

Doorlock does not lock / cycle does not start

Check if the Door is closed properly.
Check if there is a mechanical problem on the Door Lock system, Door and Door hook.
The Doorlock can only lock, if the door hook has moved the doorlock slider deep enough
inside the doorlock.
For improving the door adjustment:
- Lift carefully the door a little bit while the door is open
- Instruct the customer to push the door closed before starting a cycle
Check the harness between the CCU and the Door Lock
Start the Service program. If the problem persists the Error Code F13 will be displayed.
Check CCU operation (230V at supply of PTC). Check if doorlock contact is electrically
closed after some sec. of 230V on PTC.
In case of short circuit in doorlock (check for deformation on doorlock, can also result in
open circuit in doorlock) change doorlock and CCU.
Check the harness connections for traces of overload/damages => change cable set in
case of damages.
Check for water traces on the doorlock and change doorlock and cable set, if traces of
damages by water

For Domino CCUs with production date after Q3/07 timeout for Unlocking time is 4min.
For controls versions before Q3/07 the unlocking timeout is 10min.
For Wave controls starting ca. Q2/10, the unlocking time is 6min => see F29
If doorlock does not unlock within 3,5 min. => replace the doorlock
Remark: If the supply time for the doorlock PTC is just some minutes, the unlocking time
is shorter than if the supply time is 2 hours, additionally the unlocking time can vary a lot.
Therefor only for Domino CCUs with production date after Q3/07:
Replace the doorlock
Adjust the door (see above)
And check next point (Polarity of mains plug => false detection of F13)

False F13 detection (only at the end of the cycle):

=> False F13 detections are solved in all appliances after October 2009

which condition applies
Check polarity of appliance:
- Check on RFI Filter with mains testing screwdriver / mains tester, if Line (230V) is
connected on RFI Filter terminal marked with L.
Check if 2-pole connector on RFI Filter and 2-pole connector from RFI-Filter on Central
Control Unit are assembled correctly (locking latches of connectors locked in connector
frames).
- With this polarity false detections of F13 are possible:
inverse polarity at mains input by changing polarity of single connectors of the power
cord on the RFI Filter
(=> ATTENTION: unplug appliance before touching the single connectors!!!)
- If Line (230V) is already connected to RFI Filter terminal marked with N (and wiring
between RFI Filter and CCU is properly done and not inversed, see above) do NOT
change the polarity of the mains supply!! => change the doorlock
- Check for proper grounding of appliance: House hold socket and cabinet of appliance
Re-check behaviour of appliance: Does failure code still occure? Does cycle properly goes
to end mode? If issue is not solved: check Drive Motor for excessive current leakage.

EEPROM Error
The CCU reads the variant file data from the EEPROM memory on the CCU. The data in
the EEPROM is stored with a check-sum. During data reading the CCU compares the data
with the check-sum.
If the CCU detects an inconsistancy, the failure code is shown.

Potential Causes
A power peak, voltage variation or interrupts (mains disturbance) may cause this error:
Run the Service test Program. This will perform a complete check of the EEPROM
If the failure is detected during the Service Test replace the CCU (high risk that the
Hardware is (pre-) damaged in this case)

Remark:
The CCU can not detect if a wrong variant file is programmed. Therefor a wrong variant file
will not result in F14.

Pressure switch Failure

Without failure This failure code can be also generated by a defect heater or a defect drain pump or bad
indication: harness connections to heater or drain pump.
To exclude the drain pump and the heater as root cause, please check:
Too low water level => 1. Check if the drain pump is running and check for foreign objects in the filter (see F03)
low wash performance 2. Inverse the mains plug polarity (by turning the mains plug or by changing polarity of
single connectors of the power cord on the RFI Filter => ATTENTION: unplug
Too high water level => appliance from mains before touching the single connectors!!!)
Too high water If with inversed polarity failure code remains F23, continue with checks for Pressure
consumption, Motor switch. If with inversed polarity failure code changes to F12, check for Heater failure
overload F12.

Pressure switch failure:

If the CCU can not properly read the OPEN or CLOSED status of the pressure switch
contacts or if the CCU detects during the wash cycle that the pressure switch contact for the
wash level L1 (11-14) and the pressure switch contact for level "empty drum L0" (11-12) are
CLOSED or OPEN simultanously for 10 sec., this failure will be displayed.

Potential Causes
Check the wiring connections between the pressure switch and the CCU (2 connectors
on pressure switch and 2 connectors on CCU)
Check for proper operation of the pressure switch contacts (without water: 11-14 open,
11-12 closed, with water: 11-14 closed, 11-12 open).
Check the electrical resistance of the pressure switch for open and closed contacts
without and with water.
Start the Service program. If the problem persists the Error Code F23 will be displayed.
If no issue found, check other points from hydraulic system like blocked air trap or
blocked pressure switch hose (see failure F01 and F03)

Remark: First appliances with analogue pressure sensor = APS (and Wave CCU) will show
F23 as failure indication for the analogue pressure sensor

Potential Causes
1. check if the MCU line interface is shorted
2. check the heater for Short condition
3. check the lower harness for any damage
4. Start a normal cycle, if Failure is displayed within 4 minutes, exchange the CCU

MOTOR CONTROL UNIT FAILURE - REPETITIVE UNDERVOLTAGE

F42
The Motor Control Unit continuously checks for voltage. If during one wash cycle 4 under
voltages occur then a Motor Control Unit failure is displayed.
Potential Causes
1. Household power supply is too low.
2. Check the wire harness connections to the Motor Control Unit, Central Control Unit,
and Interference Filter.
3. Replace the Motor Control Unit.

STEAMER COMMUNICATION FAILURE

F61
An incorrect or corrupted communication between Central Control Unit (CCU) and
steamer electronic board is recognized. The failure will be reset after running the
Diagnostic Test Program.
Potential Causes
1. Check harness on steamer electronic board.
2. Check for loose connectors.
3. Exchange steamer electronic board.

STEAMER ELECTRONIC BOARD RELAYS ERROR

F62
One of the steamer relays (K1, K2, K3, K4) on the Steamer Electronic board have failed,
there is an open or short circuit. The failure will be reset after running the Diagnostic Test
Program is run.
Potential Causes
1. Check that NTC resistance of the Steamer is in range between 170 k and 300 ,
refer to Temperature Sensor table below

Temperature Resistance
0C 162,2 k
10C 98,3 k
25C 49,1 k
30C 39,5 k
60C 12,1 k
90C 4,5 k
100C 3,3 k
150C 892
200C 312
2. Confirm there is no short circuit in Steamer harness. If NTC is OK and failure repeats
exchange steamer electronic board.

TOTAL STEAMER FAILURE

If this Failure is displayed, one or several vital values are out of range. The Steamer will
F63 no longer function for any wash cycle and should be replaced. The failure will be reset
after running the Diagnostic Test Program.

STEAMER INLET VALVE FAILURE
F64
The Steamer valve or flush valve is blocked open or not working properly. The failure will
be reset after running the Diagnostic Test Program.
Potential Causes
1. Check valve for continuity (abnormal = infinity).
2. Check the connections between the Steamer Electronic Board and the valve for
steam fill.
3. Confirm water supply to steamer.
4. Exchange the complete valve block if the steamer valve has not a resistance of
approx. 812 between both contacts.
5. Exchange steamer electronic board if valve is OK.

STEAMER TIME OUT REACHED

F65
Error happens if there is no communication between Central Control Unit (CCU) and
steamer electronic board. The failure will reset after running the Diagnostic Test Program.
Potential Causes
1. Check connections between the Steamer Electronic board and CCU.
2. Check mains supply is in range (90V-132V).

CENTRAL CONTROL UNIT HEARTBEAT FAILURE
