1 Measurement and Error Analysis

This experiment measured the acceleration due to gravity using a pendulum. Measurements of the pendulum components had uncertainties ranging from 0.05-0.12 cm. The length of the pendulum was calculated to be 87.25±0.12 cm. The period of the pendulum was measured at different lengths and plotted against length. The slope of the graph was used to calculate g, which was 36.4 m/s2 with a 271% error from the accepted value of 9.81 m/s2. Sources of error included limitations of measurement tools, parallax, non-uniform swing angles, and single measurements. Taking more measurements could have reduced errors.
