Graphic creation Diary for Unit 54 Assignment 3

16/03/17 Session 1
Aim: Login and check emails, save my ILP and use Moodle. I will then begin to create my
graphics on Photoshop and fill in a diary and checklist.
Evidence: First of all I will create some folders for each of my Graphics. In these folders is
where I will keep the different versions of the graphics as well as any individual assets that
make up the images. I will then start to save images from the
internet.

Firstly I am going to create my logo, Ill start of by collecting some images that I need from
the Internet. To find these images I simply typed in pixels logo. I decided to use the image
below without the black background and I will change the colour of each letter so that it is
multi-coloured. I have also looked up band pixel images and found a guitar image I will use
on a slant position on top of my pixel word image. Altogether I will have three items that
make up my logo. Plus, two extra images of pixels for the reflection part and overlay. I have
changed my idea slightly from my storyboard, as the falling pixels under the word are now a
reflection of the word pixels.

I will open Photoshop and open up the image, because I screenshotted the image I firstly
had to crop it down. I then dragged and dropped the cropped image on my logo canvas. I
will then use the magic wand tool to remove the background colour whilst removing the
pixel squares at the bottom of the word, at the same time.

I then used the paint bucket, paintbrush and eraser to change the colour of the letters. This
was harder than I originally thought I would be because the bucket only coloured each little
square at once. I then used the paintbrush to go over any little gaps on the letters, which I
missed. I used the eye dropper tool to click on the colour that I wanted with the paint brush
Victoria Holt

to make sure I got the same shades when filling in any little gaps. I coloured each letter a
different colour so it was multi-coloured like pixels are. I used the eraser to go over any part,
which went over the outlines of the letters.

To find a mosaic picture I searched for black pixels background. After this I then added a
mosaic type picture found from the internet and opened it in a separate Photoshop tab so
that I could then drag and drop to make this an overlay. I had to look up how to create
overlays, as I wasnt sure what to do. To do this I selected the correct layer on my logo
canvas and went onto blending options to set the opacity to 65%. I added a separate mosaic
picture for each letter so it gave the letters a better effect. I then used the eraser to get rid
of the excess picture to outline the letters. I then used the bevel and contour options so
make the word stand out more from the transparent background. I had to keep changing
the view size of my image so that I could see which parts I had erased and which parts I
hadnt.

After this I added the guitar pixelated image from the Internet onto my canvas and used the
show transform controls to rotate, move and resize the image so that it fitted in the right
place to match my original storyboard design. I firstly had to remove the white background
using the magic wand tool, which was very easy to do. I then added the bevel and contour
effect onto it so that it blended in nicely with the pixels word, keeping my image consistent
throughout.

One of the final sections I did was creating the word THE on word so that I could get the
correct font I wanted. To-do this I typed the word the into word and went through a range
of font style to find one which would look good with my pixels word font. I then change the
colour of the word to suit my needs and saved it as a picture in my work area. I then opened
this up in Photoshop and dragged and dropped it to my logo canvas. I then resized and
Victoria Holt

positioned it in the right place. I then rasterized it, so that I could add a texture and bevel
effect over the top. I also used the same technique as before to add an overlay over the top
of the word apart from this time the opacity was set to 30%.

Finally, I found a falling black pixels image on the Internet and cropped it down to get rid of
the trademark in the corner. I then used the magic wand tool to get rid of the top part of the
image leaving some black dots/pixel squares. I didnt end up using this image in the end as I
changed my design while creating my logo so instead I used the black paintbrush to create
my own dots and make a reflection. In the end I think this looked more effective. Below
right you can see what I change the design to in my final image.

At the end of this I saved my photo that I made as a PNG file so that it kept the transparent
background colour. I saved several versions of it so that I could continue to edit the parts I
wasnt happy with.

Learnt: In this session I learnt about the layers used in Photoshop and how to overlay
images. I also learnt how to change the size of graphics to what I need.

16/03/17 - Session 1
Aim: Login and check emails, use Moodle and I will then continue to create my graphics on
Photoshop and fill in a diary and checklist.
Evidence: Now I have finished the logo graphic I am going to start creating my A3 poster. To
start off with I will look up the sizes of an A3 piece of paper and then open a new Photoshop
canvas with the correct size and a transparent background. The size of the
canvas is going to be 29.7 x 42.0cm as this is the size of an A3 piece of paper.

I will start off by adding the background, which I found on the internet. Firstly I will open up
the cube image to drag it onto the canvas, Ill then be using Show transform options to
make the background fit the canvas. I will then double click on the background image layer
and change the opacity to 81. I will then open up the logo design in another Photoshop file
and drag it onto the poster canvas and add it onto the top middle of the canvas.

Im now going to add the text, I will do this by selecting the text tool from the side bar and
drawing a new text box. Before I write any text I will make sure my text is a suitable size and
the font style is Arial. As you can see from the screenshot below I set the colour at grey and
the size at 80.
Victoria Holt

I will continue to do the same thing for adding all my other text, although the
text will all be different bright colours. This is what my poster looks like so far.
In my original plan I said that I would put an outline around the Tour dates text
however when I added a stroke effect over the top, it didnt look as good. if I
decided to go back and add the outline all I do is double click on the tour dates
layer and add a black stroke.

Now I am going to add all the contact information at the bottom, just by simply using the
text tool again. I will double click on the text box layers and add effects to them. For
example on the Contact text I will add a pattern overlay to get the stripe effect I want. The
last thing I am going to do is to add a star shape to the top right corner where I will add text
saying CD OUT NOW!. To make the star shape I am going to use the line tool to draw out
the star using a gold colour. I then used the paintbrush tool to colour the star shape in as
the paint bucket tool didnt work for my hand drawn shape.

All thats left to do now is to add the text into the star shape. To do this I will follow the
same process as adding my other text. Now I will save this as a PSD and PNG file format in
my poster folder. To the right you can see my final A3 Poster graphic finished:

Learnt: In this lesson I learnt how to add a pattern overlay onto text in Photoshop as well as
adding an outline to text.

16/03/17 Session 2
Aim: Login and check emails, use Moodle and I will then continue to create my graphics on
Photoshop and fill in a diary and checklist.
Evidence: The last graphic I need to make is the pixels CD cover. I will open up a new canvas
and create the front and back of my cover as two different images. I will start off by creating
the back and spine of my cover. This means my canvas size will need to be 13 x 12cm with a
transparent background. The very first thing I did to do is make a 1cm spine for my cover on
the right hand side of my canvas. To do this I will simply use the line tool to divide up my
canvas. I used a canvas guide line so that I could make sure it was exactly 1 cm from the
edge and that the line was straight.

I will now add my background image which is the same as the one I used on my A3 poster
and I will copy it onto the CD cover canvas in the same way. I had to rearrange my layers so
that the line appeared over the top of the background image. I will now double click on the
background to change the opacity to 85 so that you can see the text clearly.

I will now add the Track list text as well as the text for the names of the songs. I will just use
the text tool to add the song name text. To add all the text I will drag a text box onto my
canvas and type in the text. The text font I am using is Arial Narrow and it will be size 20. I
will add circle shapes as the bullet points using the text tool, so that they are all the same
size I will duplicate the circle layer and drag each dot to a new position.
Victoria Holt

Next I going to find a barcode image on the internet, as I feel it will look better than trying to
make my own. I will then save the image into my internet images folder. I will then drag and
drop it onto my CD cover canvas. I will also add my legal information using a simple text box.
The font I used for the legal information text is Arial narrow at 9pt.

Learnt: In this session I learnt how to change the opacity of images in Photoshop and how to
use the guide lines.
20/03/17 Session 1
Aim: Login and check emails, use Moodle and I will then continue to create my graphics on
Photoshop and fill in a diary and checklist.
Evidence: I will now start to make the front cover of my CD case by opening up a new canvas
and making sure its 12 x 12 cm. I will then start off by adding a light orange colour to the
background using the paint brush tool. I changed the opacity of the orange colour to 95% so
that it wasnt as bold.

The next stage of making my front cover is to add my logo into the centre of the canvas. I
will do this by opening up my logo Photoshop image and dragging and dropping it onto the
canvas. I will then add another text box that says UNCOVERED as this is the name of the CD
itself. It will be Comic Sans MS Bold at 36pt size.

The last thing I need to is to find some 3D cube graphics which I can use to dot around the
front cover. I searched on the internet for 3D single cubes and found the one below. I then
saved it into my internet images folder. I will open up this cube image and change the colour
and size of it to what I want. To change the colour I will used the paint
bucket tool and colour palette then click on the cube sides. To change the
size I will use show transform options when the graphic is selected. I will
Victoria Holt

then drag the cubes onto my front CD cover. When I was adding the cubes I decided to
change the colour of my background so it was more opaque and is now 9% instead of 95%.

The last thing I am going to do is to put both my front and back cover onto the same canvas
to see what it looks like. Before moving my images I had to merge their layers together so
that the whole graphic move as one image. Below is my final CD cover image.

Learnt: In this session I learnt how to merge the layers together so all my assets that I have
added to my graphic moved as one image. I also learnt how to change the opacity of a
colour.
