This document provides steps to install VMware ESXi 6.0 on a server. Steps to Install Esxi 6.0 ( Incase of Installation )

--> Connect to MGMT segotn4500


--> Access the ILO and launch the Console
--> GO to Virtual Drives Image File CD/DVD-ROM
Access the following path to

E:\Migreringar\ISOS\vmware_isos\vSphere 6\HP :

VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update2-3620759-HPE-600.U2.9.4.7.13-Mar2016.iso -- Click Open.

Esxi host will reboot and displace


i. Mapped ISO image
ii. Boot menu

By default highlighted on ISO image .. Press Enter

The installation progress..

Reboot -- initialize the disk space -- Enter


Language -- US English
Sett the Password
Press F11 to install the OS
Enter to reboot the serer

In case of Preloaded OS
F2 Set the root password UN WSSBILo pw : AMDHGSTq04

ILO --> Need check and launch


Quick Launch Tasks --> Power ON System
Virtual Console Preview --> Launch

OS will start loading

Set the Root Password

Configure Network
o Configure Management Network
Network Adapter : Make sure all ports status is connected
If its disconnected, email it hardware team to connect all the ports ( You will
find the contact person details in GLOT audit trial )
Network Adapter : Select the Device Names ( vmnic1 / vmnic2 ) if its not working
check remaining combination ( For me vmnuc2/ vmnic3 worked )
Configure VLAN
Configure Ipv4 ( Select Static IPV4) --> Enter IP address/ Subnet / Gateway
IPv6 --> Disable Ipv6
DNS Configuration --> Primary / Alternative DNS /Host Name
Custom DNS Suffixes --> got.volvo.net

Set the Vlan id


Remove the Ipv6

Restart
Login
Test Management Network
Make sure two NIC are enabled ( Console / Management access )

Login to vCentre

As per the GLOT Request select the right Datacentre Cluster Add host
Make sure Host is put under Maintenance Mode Disable all the alerts
Go to plug-ins Select the plug name
You will see new tab Update Manager
Click on Attach Baseline or Group Select the appropriate plug-ins
o --> VMware vSphere Update Manager Extension -- Enable
o ---> Update Manager
o --> Attach Baskline or group
o --> Select the ( Non-Critical and Critical Patches and 6.0 patching )
Extension Baselines
Upgrade Baselines
o Click On Scan ( Select Patches & Extensions ) one more option is Upgrades
o Click On Remediate To install patches -- Done

Go to Configuration Tab
Click on Networking --> Add Networking --> Select Virtual Machine/ Vmkernal
Virtual Machine ( Select this to handle Virtual Machine Network Traffic)
Vmkernal ( Select this to handle vSphere V Motion / iSCSI, NFS and Host
Management)

- vSwitch : We will enable NIC team by / Active adapter


- vSphere Standard Switch Properties : Number of Port is set 120
- MTU 1500 ( Maximum Transmission Unit )

- We will create the following port


- Standard Switch : vSwitch
o Management Network
o Vmotion

- Standard Switch : vSwitch 1


o NFS1 :- Naming Convention :- NFS_3502
o NFS2 ( NIC teaming ) : NFS_3503

- Go to Configuration --> Under Software


- Click on Time Configuration
o Time Configuration Properties
Select NTP Client Enabled ( Under NTP configuration )
Click on Option --> General tab
Select Start automatically if any ports are open and stop when all ports are
closed
Click on NTP setting
Add the following address
192.138.110.5
192.138.116.133

- Need to configure Storage (NFS) - This will helped to configure the Sys log
- ( Need to configure Tintri storage for Sys log )

- Go to Configuration tab

- Go to Configuration tab
- Click on Storage -- Add Storage
- Select Network File System (NFS)
- Update the details as
o Server:
o Folder :
o Datastore Name :
Now, we will see a mounted datastore as
segot_d9_x401d001 -- Right Click and Browse
Click on Logs -- Create a folder by Host Name
Reboot the host and make sure logs are recorded
o OR

ESXi local syslog file Configuration

- Select Storage.
- Right-click on local datastore and select Browse.
- Create a uniquely-named directory for this ESX host (eg, .locker-ESXHostname) .locker-
segotv00318
- Close the Datastore Browser.
- Click Advanced Settings under Software.
- Select the ScratchConfig section.
- Change the ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation configuration option, specifying
the full path to the directory. For example:
- /vmfs/volumes/segotv00318_Console/.locker-segotv00318
- Click OK.
- Reboot ESXi host for the configuration change to take effect

- Go to Configuration --> Under Software


- Click on Advance settings
- Click on NFS: Configure the following values under the following options:
- At NFS.HeartbeatFrequency enter 12.
- At NFS.HeartbeatMaxFailures enter 10.
- At NFS.MaxVolumes enter 256.
- At NFS.HearbeatTimeout enter 5
- At NFS.MaxQueueDepth enter 64.

o Click on Net:,
- At Net.TcpIpHeapSize enter 32.
- At Net.TcpIpHeapMax enter 128.

- ESXi local syslog file Configuration


- Go to Configuration Tab
- Click on Advanced Settings
o Syslog,global.logDir: [segot_d9_x401d001] logs/segotv00293 ( Depends on the Host
name request )
