Problem Based Learning Fluid Mechanics

This document provides instructions for a group project to explain why oil and water do not mix. Students are asked to form groups of 5-6 people and use their knowledge of fluid mechanics concepts and properties to clearly explain the causes and effects. They must complete a FILA (Facts, Ideas, Learning Issues, Resources) table and discuss possible solutions. The group must present their findings and conclusions in a 5-minute video submission. Peer and lecturer assessments will be conducted using a rubric to evaluate the project report, presentation skills, and participation/commitment of each group member.

PROBLEM BASED LEARNING

BFC 10403 Fluid Mechanics

GROUP PROJECT 1

Why Oil and Water Don't Mix???

There are certain aspects of life that we accept as a given and never question,
so much so that we make cute little saying around them. "They are like oil and
water!" some people say, "they just don't mix." But when one takes a close look
at substances like oil and water, a mystery is observed. They truly will not meld;
in fact, oil will sit on top of the water even after the two items are shaken or
stirred. This is perplexing. These are after all two liquids-why don't they mix.
Project Instructions

You, become an Engineers /Scientists, surely know what happened and
