Jackals and Arabs PDF

The narrator is camping in an oasis when he is approached by a pack of jackals. The oldest jackal tells the narrator that jackals have been waiting for him to end the long conflict between jackals and Arabs. The jackals view Arabs with disdain and want the narrator, as an outsider from the north, to use a pair of scissors to slit the Arabs' throats. An Arab leader interrupts and drives the jackals away by cracking his whip. He shows the narrator a dead camel corpse that immediately draws all the jackals back to feed, despite their hatred of Arabs. The Arab comments on the jackals' strange hope and their distaste for Arabs.
