Qu. 6

The document discusses technologies the author has learned about through creating a film opening. The author was already proficient in film production technologies from 7 years of experience as a hobby. They learned how to use a DSLR camera, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Davinci Resolve. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera used allows changing settings like white balance after filming, providing flexibility. It also records at a higher bitrate than a DSLR for sharper images. A slider was used to create tracking shots without a heavy rig. A collapsable reflector was also used to bounce light more evenly on the subject's face.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this

product?

Before I created my film opening I was already proficient in numerous media

technologies as film production is one of my hobbies that I have taught myself over
the last 7 years. I saved up all year to buy my first ever DSLR camera when I was 10
years old and then discovered there was an option for filming videos built into the
camera. Due to the shallow depth of field and use of interchangeable lenses, this
allowed for a much more cinematic looking image than a regular video camera could
achieve. The video DSLR revolution saw thousands of people online, with the
explosion of YouTube, sharing tips and tricks in how to achieve cinematic techniques
that had previously only been available to large scale productions with tens of
thousands of dollars in budgets. I learnt how to correctly set up my cameras
settings, how to use Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro and
later on even a full colour grading suite used for blockbuster movies - Davinci
Resolve.

The camera I used to shoot my

opening was my personal
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema
Camera. This camera shoots in a
RAW format which allows settings
such as white balance and ISO to
be changed after the footage has
been shot, allowing for greater
flexibility in post production.
CinemaDNG RAW also records
data at a much higher bitrate than a
traditional DSLR which has two advantages: firstly, the images produced look much
sharper and cleaner than H.264 footage that is found in a traditional DSLR and
secondly, when colour grading the footage it doesnt become grainy and mushy like
normal H.264 footage does.

In order to create more

interesting camera shots
I used a slider. This is a
tool which allows the
camera to be mounted
on top of a rail and
moved backwards and
forwards in order to
create a tracking shot.
This kind of tool allows
me to create a dolly
movement without
needing a large, heavy
and cumbersome rig.
A piece of equipment that I had not been familiar with
prior to filming my production is the collapsable
reflector. We used this tool in order to bring out the light
more evenly on Amaras face. It works by bouncing
back natural sunlight which allows us to redirect it to
wherever we wish. This provided us with a more
cinematic feel as this is a tool used in professional films
in order to add more light to outdoor scenes.
