Developing technical solutions to business problems, or to advance a company's sales
efforts, begins with defining, analyzing and documenting requirements. Managing
requirements at the project level can help fulfill business needs. Business
analysts typically take the lead role in: Assisting with the business case.
Role of Bussiness Analyst
An organizations adaptability, agility, and ability to manage constant change through
innovation can be keys to success. Business analysts can make it all happen more efficiently
and effectively to achieve goals through projects that translate customer needs into new
products, services, and profits
The business analyst's primary objective is to communicate user requirements clearly to
stakeholders, facilitators and partners
Proactively resolves customer satisfaction issues
Negotiates contracts, manages relationships, and monitors vendor performance against SLAs
Business analysts typically take the lead role in:
o Assisting with the business case
o Planning and monitoring
o Eliciting requirements
o Requirements organization
o Translating and simplifying requirements
o Requirements management and communication
o Requirements analysis
The goal is to master the skills needed to:
o Implement advanced strategies for gathering, reviewing and analyzing data
requirements
o Prioritize requirements and create conceptual prototypes and mock-ups
o Master strategic business process modeling, traceability and quality management
techniques
o Apply best practices for effective communication and problem-solving
Ten key roles and responsibilities
Extract, Anticipate, Constrain, Organize, Translate, Safeguard, Simplify, Verify, Manage,
System and operations maintenance - Once all requirements have been met and the IT
solution delivered, the business analysts role shifts to maintenance, or preventing and
correcting defects; enhancements, or making changes to increase the value provided by the
system; and operations and maintenance, or providing system validation procedures,
maintenance reports, deactivation plans, and other documents, plans and reports. The
business analyst will also play a major role in analyzing the system to determine when
deactivation or replacement is required.
Required
Education and Experience
Broad IT domain experience in three or more of the following areas IT areas:
Applications Development, Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, Vendor
Management, Quality Assurance, Infrastructure, and Maintenance and Support
Bachelors degree in any field
Advanced degrees are preferred
Demonstrated ability to communicate in both verbal and written
communication
Demonstrated analytical skills
Basic understanding of information technology and business concepts
Familiarity with general business functions
Problem solving and strong communication skills Describe the responsibilities,
time allocation, and background that make a candidate a good fit for the BA role.
Time Allocation
30% capturing business needs and shaping requirements through dialogue
with business sponsors, 20% understanding end-user requirements,
25% working on solution design and communicating with solutions team,
10% project management,
10% integration planning/dependency management/business process
mapping, and
5% supporting testing.
