Abstract There are number of technologies used and under construction for waste management. If the waste is not
properly managed, it will be harmful to the environment. In this context, appropriate waste collection is proposed.
Today, we see the picture of the trash can be too full, all the waste overflow, leading to pollution. So to design a system
based on the raspberry pi3 model. In this system, garbage levels are detected. The camera and sensor will detect the
waste level. When the bin is 80% full and 100% full, the sensor will detect the level and send the information to the
control room using the IOT (indicating that the dust box is full). If someone throws garbage while the trash is full, the
camera will capture the person's picture and display it on the screen, and it will warn you not to go through the trash
when it is full.
I. INTRODUCTION
A nation always possess rules, regulations and technologies but the matter of grave concern is that the linking factor is
missing, faithful following of duties by the officer and low grade workers is nowhere to be seen. Here rises a urgent need
of developing a system which can handle the situation intelligently before it is too late.
Project idea: The project can monitor the level of garbage and send information regarding it to the control room. The
ultrasonic sensor and camera is going to play a circular role. When the garbage is detected in specified path, it will
display the picture on screen that is on TFT display. And also detects the level of garbage in the bin box, as bin box
becomes full, it will send the message to the control room through way2sms system which can send and receive the
messages to and from various part of the location. The system provides real time monitoring of the waste collection
system through a web based application available to administrators for decision making like reallocation of routes and
containers etc. and management issues like observing performance of contractors, observing waste generation
characteristics of particular area etc. and to the citizens providing transparency in civic administration.
The paper [1] focuses on waste management services have made a concerted effort to use information technology to
reduce waste management costs and to identify missing/stolen bins. To reduce the cost and improve efficiency,
intelligent systems can play a significant role in providing intelligently processed and personalized information about
customers, waste management administrators and services. The application of these principles can be facilitated by the
use of mobile technology such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), load cell sensor, and so on. RFID is a modern
and fast growing mobile technology that uniquely and accurately identifies a RFID tag (waste tag) attached to, or
embedded in, a waste bin (e.g., garbage)
The paper [2] focuses on the system designed to collect data and to deliver the data through wireless mesh network. The
system also employs duty cycle technique to reduce power consumption and to maximize operational time. The Smart
bin system was tested in an outdoor environment. Through the tested, we collected data and applied sense-making
methods to obtain litter bin utilization and litter bin daily seasonality information. With such information, litter bin
providers and cleaning contractors are able to make better decision to increase productivity. The work proposed in this
paper illustrates how the Smart bin solution empowers cleaning operators to detect cleanliness issues in real time. Thus,
the system is able to help in increasing overall productivity and cleanliness.
The paper [3] focuses on Automatic garbage collection and information gathering system which is based on Image
processing as well as on GSM module. The main concept is that a Camera will be placed at every garbage collection
point along with load cell sensor at bottom of the garbage can. The camera will take continuous snapshots of the garbage
can. A threshold level is set which compares the output of camera and load sensor .The comparison is done with help of
microcontroller. After analyzing the image we get an idea about level of garbage in the can and from the load cell sensor
we get to know weight of garbage. Accordingly information is processed that is controller checks if the threshold level is
exceeded or not. The controller sends a message with the help of GSM module to Garbage collection local central office
to notify that garbage can is exceeded its capacity and disposal of waste is required. Accordingly the authority sends the
garbage can collecting vehicle to collect the garbage, which is done with the help of robot mechanism.
The paper [4] focuses on An image duplicate detection method for identifying modied copies of the same image in a
very large database. Modications that we consider include rotation, scaling and cropping. A compact 12 dimensional
descriptor based on Fourier Mellin Transform is introduced. The compactness of this descriptor allows ecient indexing
over the entire database. Results are presented on a 10 million image database that demonstrates the eectiveness and the
eciency of this descriptor.
The main theme of the work is to develop a smart intelligent garbage alert system for a proper garbage management .This
paper proposes a smart alert system for garbage clearance by giving an alert signal to the municipal web server for instant
cleaning of dustbin with proper verification based on level of garbage filling.
3.B OBJECTIVE:
The study was undertaken with the following objectives:
Assessment of existing system for solid waste
Development of a real time system
Establishment of an efficient plan for monitoring the so waste collection and transportation system.
3.C SCOPE
Automated monitoring of transfer stations, processing centres for daily garbage inward, outward. We can add GPS
modem to this project. This will help to track the position in case there are more dustbins.
Monitoring of the vehicle in real time to improve per vehicle productivity & reduce non-compliance.
Usage and route planning optimization of garbage trucks.
Rapid management of vehicle breakdown and maintenance.
Centralized command control center for waste collection and transportation.
Efficient monitoring and management of waste bin.
3.E APPLICATIONS AND ADVANTAGES:
4.A Raspberry Pi
The Raspberry Pi super single board Linux computer family was born from a Model A, closely followed by A+.
Since then, the B generations have proliferated and now there is a board to suit absolutely any need.
GPIO: 40 pin
GPU: Video core IV
Operating Systems: Rasp bi an Rasp BMC, Arch Linux, Rise OS, Open ELEC Pi dora
Ports:4x USB 2.0
Supported Resolutions: 640x350 to 1920x1200, including 1080p, PAL & NTSC standards
Storage: Micro USB
This TFT provides a 3.5 display for the Raspberry Pi (RPi). It features a 3.5 TFT LCD 320x480 resolution display and
a touch screen.
This TFT LCD connects directly to the GPIO connector of the RPi.
Additional GPIO connector given on TFT PCB to use rest pins for other use.
Ultrasonic distance measurement module HC - SR04 provides 2cm - 400cm non - contact measurement function,
ranging accuracy of up to 3mm. Building modules include ultrasonic transmitters, receivers and control circuits. Basic
principle: (1) Use IO to trigger the high level signal of at least 10us, (2) Unit inevitably send 8 40kHz and detect whether
there is any pulse signal return. (3) If any signal is received at a high level, the time of the high output IO duration is the
time from when the ultrasonic signal is transmitted and received. Test distance = (high time sound speed (340M / S) /
2. Here electrical energy is transformed into sound to send the pulse. The sound that is received back is converted into
electricity. Thus the time lag between the sent and received sound signal is used to estimate the distance to the object.
The interference must be spaced so that they do not interfere with each other. This interference is sometimes referred to
as "crosstalk". The target should be mounted perpendicular to the axis of the sensor.
V. CONCLUSION
The embedded intelligent alarm system is designed to properly monitor and maintain spam. The system avoids irregular
cleaning of the trash by sending an alert to the individual concerned on a regular basis. It further improves the system by
providing additional support for real-time cleaning of the state and measurement team performance. As a result, the
system is very useful as an admirable solution for environmental maintenance. In addition, it helps to reduce the need for
high human intervention in garbage maintenance for cities and pollution monitoring systems.
