1. GENERAL
1.1 Scope
This document presents structure analysis for checking of Single Pipe Support Type A for Sangsam Oil
Production Project
1.2 Reference
- Drawing Reference :
No.Drawing
- References :
a. AISC 2001, Third Edition : "Manual of Steel Construction, Load and Resistance Factor Design"
b. ASCE 7-02 : "American Society of Civil Engineers, Minimum Design Loads for Building and other
Structures"

1.3 Unit
All Unit are in US customary units unless otherwise noted
Material Strength
Steel Pile ASTM A252-98 (2002) GRADE 2 fy = 35,000 psi
Welding Electrode : E70xx ft = 70,000 psi
2. ANALYSIS
- Pipe support on piles will analized using SAP 2000 software by assuming fixed support located at the natural ground
level
- All of Thermal load that used for calculation in this report are average load (not maximum load) from node of pipe (at
CAESAR output) that correspond with position of example pipe support.

3. LOADING DESIGN
The following loads and forces are considered in the design of pile foundation :
Dead Load ( Self weight of Pipe Support + Empty Pipe weight )
Test Load ( Self weight of Pipe Support + Full water Pipe weight )
Wind Load : ASCE 7-02 chapter 6
The formula for design wind force for open buildings and other stuctures : F = qz * G * Cf * Af
Terrain Exposure Category shall be C
qz : 32.30 (velocity pressure, psf)
G : 0.85 (gust effect factor for rigid system)
Cf :
Net force coefficient based on type of structure; ASCE 7-02 Figure 6-19

Af : ft ; Projected area normal to the wind
4. LOADING COMBINATION
Unfactored Loading Combination ( for Pile Foundation Capacity Check, Beam Deflection and Column
Displacement)
LC 1 Support self Weight + Empty Pipe Weight (D + E)
LC 2 Support self Weight + Thermal Load (D + Th)
LC 3 - LC 6 Support self Weight Wind Load + Thermal Load (D W + Th)
LC 7 - LC 10 Support self Weight 70% of Earthquake Load + Thermal Load (D 0.7V + Th)
LC 11 - LC 18 Support self Weight + 52.5% of Wind Load 52.5% of Earthquake Load + Thermal Load (D +
0.525W 0.525V + Th)
LC 19 - LC 22 60% Support self Weight + 60% Empty Pipe Weight Wind Load (0.6D + 0.6E W)
LC 23 - LC 26 60% Support self Weight + 60% Empty Pipe Weight 70% Earthquake Load (0.6D + 0.6E
0.7V)
LC 27 - LC 28 Support self Weight + Test Load + 25% of Wind Load (D + T + 0.25 W)

Earthquake Load for pipe support is placed in each joint, so self weight of pipe support is divided in some area
depend on number of joint (see following drawing). Earthquake Load for pipe line is placed in each pipe line.

- For Index Ratio check, SAP 2000 analysed the pipe support frame by using loading combination from
Factored load. Pipe support on piles will analized by assuming fixed support located at the fixity point of
the pile.
- The following table are output of maximum stress on frame member selected by SAP 2000 program
taken from the worst loading combination. The member stress is indicated as Index Ratio which should
be less than 1, unless the member will be overstress or fail
Index Ratio ( IR) = factored ratio for ultimated load to design strength
( in SAP 2000 Output was called Code Check )
