Today, WIL holds an undoubted global leader position owing to its' willingness to
embrace new technologies and develop innovative products. With a network across 32 countries,
the company offers the entire range of home textile products to consumers from almost every
corner of the world and are one of the trusted suppliers to many of the top retailers in the US and
Europe. Welspun India also owns leading brands like Christy, Hygro Comfort and others.
It has modern manufacturing facilities at Anjar and Vapi in Gujarat, India where it
produces the entire range of home textiles for bed & bath category. Welspun India Ltd. also
owns the following home textile brands.
History:
YEAR EVENTS
1985 - Welspun (I) Limited was incorporated on 17th January, as a Private Limited Company in
the name and style of Welspun Winilon Silk Mills Pvt. Ltd. at Mumbai. The Main Object of the
Company is to manufacture Polyester filament yarns and texturised yarns. The Company was
promoted by G.R.G. group headed by G.R. Goenka.
1986 - It has established yarn texturising unit at Palghar, District Thane with one texturising
machine of 216 spindles for producing 797.5 MT yarns per annum.
1989 - In March, another texturising unit of the same capacity was set up at Silvassa.
1990 - A modern polyester filament flat yarn manufacturing unit was set up at Achhad, District
Thane, with a capacity of 605 MT per annum.
1991 - The capacity of company increased from 2,200 MT to 3,500 MT per annum.
- 18,00,000 shares issued (prem. Rs 5 per share) out of which 90,000 shares reserved and
allotted to employees on 17,10,000 shares offered to the public in October, 1991. Additional
2,70,000 shares were allotted to retain oversubscription (2,56,500 shares to the public and 13,500
shares to the employees).
1993 - The Company undertook to set up a cotton spinning project with 15,000 spindles at
Village Morai, near Vapi, Gujarat for manufacture of terry towels.
- The company also proposed to set up a POY project with a capacity of 15,000 MTPA at
Silvassa, Dadra, Nagar Haveli.
1995 - 21,584 spindles and 240 rotors were added to the cotton spinning division.
- The name of the Company was changed from "Welspun Polyesters (India) Ltd." to "Welspun
India Ltd." w.e.f. 12th October.
- 7,50,000 Pref. shares issued during the year.
2000 - The Company has informed that, a wholly-owned subsidiary in the name of Welspun
USA Inc. has been incorporated in the USA.
- The Company demerger for hiving off of the company's cotton yarn unit into a separate
company and compromise with the lenders of the company.
2001 - Demerger of the spinning division of the company into a separate company viz. Welspun
Cotton Yarn Ltd.
- Credit Rating and Information Services of India Ltd. has downgraded its rating in respect of the
company's NCDs from `B' to `D'.
2013 -Welspun Corp Ltd announces the sale of its stake in Leighton Welspun India for USD 99
million. -Welspun India Ltd has recommended a dividend at the rate of 20% for the financial
year. -Welspun India Ltd has "Allotment of 41,000 equity shares under ESOP and Increase in
Paid up Share Capital". -Welspun India Ltd has appointed Mrs. Dipali Goenka as an Executive
Director of the Company with effect from April 01, 2013.
2014 -Welspun Corp bags new orders to take its order book to Rs. 5,800 crores. -Annual
volumes at an all-time high; Order Booking of more than a million ton. -Welspun India Ltd has
recommended a dividend at the rate of 30% for the financial year. -Welspun India Ltd has
allotted 23,500 equity shares to various employees of the Company who had exercised their
options under ESOP scheme of the Company.

with additional capacities in Towels, Bed Linen and Rugs and Carpets. Keeping these factors in
mind, we have coined our Vision 2020 for Welspun India. Through our Vision 2020, we intend

Products:
Towels: Towels are made out of 100% cotton or blended yarns, which have significant
hygroscopic property, with a capability of quick water absorption. The range offered by WIL
includes beach towels, kitchen towels, baby hood towels, hand towels, face towels and bath
sheets. The Company also includes innovative products like Quick Dry Towels, HYGRO etc.
Robes: Welspun manufactures bath robes in different styles such as kimono, hood, zipper,
shawl and wraps. Since the fabric for bath robes is similar to that of towels, the Company is
able to leverage the product development and innovation undertaken in the production of terry
towels, in this segment.
Bed Linen products: The bed sheets are made out of 100% cotton, various blends and such as
polyester cotton, cotton bamboo, cotton silk and cotton eucalyptus. The bed sheets are in
different sizes, according to bed sizes and mattress depth. The bed sheet includes innovative
products like Flexifit (which fits into the size of the mattress without any wrinkles and doesnt
need ironing).
Basic Bedding and Decorative Bedding: Basic bedding includes mattress pads, blown and
garneted pillows and basic comforters while decorative bedding products include comforters,
duvets, coverlets, bed skirts, shams, decorative pillows and bolsters.
Rugs: Bath rugs are made of cotton, nylon or micro fiber and can be latex-backed, depending on
consumer preferences. These come in various sizes, shapes and designs.
Carpets: The carpet facility was completed in FY14 and has started contributing to the revenues
in FY15. The Company is basically focusing on decorative carpets and area rugs in this segment.
Innovation and R&D:
In line with our vision of Welspun 2.O, we are working diligently on differentiating
ourselves from our peers to establish top-of-mind recall for our customers and clients. Our major
thrust has been on innovation and development of new products. Apart from our own innovation
lab, we have partnered with various institutions to develop new products and solutions. Currently
Welspun India has twenty- six patents (including pending ones). In fact, 34% of the FY2016
sales were contributed by innovative products developed/ owned by the company.

Education:
Welspun Vidya Mandir at Anjar focuses on providing quality education to 1500 students, up to
standard XII and following the CBSE curriculum. Extracurricular activities such as community
engagement, welfare programmes, art and crafts are integrated into a holistic learning approach.
Quality Education Project at 41 government schools in Anjar reaches out to over 10,000
students. Deployment of 60 Para teachers at Anjar. Smart Classes installed in all 28 schools in
Anjar to deliver the curriculum in an engaging and interactive audio-visual
Environment and Health:
Partnered Anjar, Gandhidham - Adipur Nagar Palika to build a sewage treatment plant (STP) at
Anjar. The project will recycle and treat waste water generated in the two cities. The total water
requirement at the Anjar plant will be met by processed water from the STP. We intend to
decrease our dependency on fresh water consumption which would increase the availability of
fresh water for the communities around us. Created awareness among communities to plant trees
and distributed saplings. Green Village program: 8000 saplings planted in 14 villages of Anjar
Taluka. 200 saplings planted at 2 govt. schools in Mandya. Beach Cleanup drive at Juhu beach
by employees after Ganesh Chaturti.
