AFS Functionalities: Category Higher Than Requested Delivery Date (Setting ' ')
AFS Functionalities: Category Higher Than Requested Delivery Date (Setting ' ')
Definition
Controls the strategy, according to which the ATP and/or MRP should proceed when assigning incoming stock
to requirements.
Use
The ATP/MRP check method plays an especially important role if you use AFS materials with coverage
strategies, which allow the coverage of a certain requirements category by more than one stock category.
With the ATP/MRP check method, you control whether the category or the customer's requested delivery date
should have higher priority when covering a requirement:
The system always tries to cover the requirement with the stock category that comes first in the
stock/requirements assignment sequence defined for the coverage strategy. That means that the
system checks whether or not the desired category is available within the entire replenishment lead
time (RLT) or ATP search horizon . It will only check the other permitted categories if the result of this
check is negative.
Example
Requirement of 500 pieces in category 001. With the coverage strategy used, you control that a
requirement in category 001 can initially be covered by stock in category 001 and then also by stock in
category 002. With the ATP/MRP check method ' ', the next available (incoming) stock in category 001
will be assigned to this requirement, regardless of whether or not the requirement can be confirmed for
the requested delivery date.
The system tries to cover the requirement for the requested delivery date, if possible. That means that
the system checks all of the available categories for a certain date before it proceeds to the next date
within the RLT or ATP search horizon.
Example
Requirement of 500 pieces in category 001. With the coverage strategy used, you control that a
requirement in category 001 can initially be covered by stock in category 001 and then also by stock in
category 002. With the ATP/MRP check method 'C', the system first checks whether there is stock (in
any category) available for the requested delivery date. If so, the stock will be assigned, regardless of
whether it is category 001 or 002.
Note
If the RLT for your material is active, the availability check will be executed either until the end of the RLT or the
end of the ATP search horizon (if the latter is shorter than the RLT).
The ATP/MRP check method can be controlled for each ATP checking rule in Customizing or in the AFS MRP 1
view. The setting in the ATP checking rule has higher ranking than the setting in the material master.
Example
Requirements coverage according to coverage strategy (permitted category field: quality)
A new requirement 2 for 100 pieces in category 002 and requirements date 03/12/01 will now be posted:
With Setting " " (Category higher than Requested Delivery Date)
The system tries to confirm every requirement in the requested category. Requirement 1 (already available in
the system) is therefore assigned to incoming stock 1 (03/09/01). Requirement 2 (to be rechecked) cannot be
covered in the desired category 002. Since 002 can also be covered by 001 according to the coverage strategy,
this requirement will be confirmed for the incoming stock on 03/14/01. The original requested delivery date of
requirement 2 can therefore not be fulfilled.
The system tries to confirm each requirement for the requested delivery date. Requirement 1 (already existing
in the system) is therefore assigned to incoming stock 2 (03/14/01), since its date is closest. The chosen setting
"C" remains ignored, because the requirement can no longer be covered in the desired category, having been
confirmed for the requested delivery date. Requirement 2 (to be rechecked) can then be covered by incoming
stock 1 (03/09/01). Both requirements are therefore confirmed for the requested delivery date.
