Firstly, all the St Gregory Catholic College stuff are very kind, helpful with understanding about my
difficulty to speak English. The students also are very polite. The lunch food is cheap and delicious. It
is good that we shall have opportunity to discuss with students from 6th form. But I think that there
were long hours of attendance with the same subject and some times with the same students. Also
there was not at the beginning a lot of flexibility in changing the timetable. And last but not the least
I would like to have the oppurtunity to see and spend reasonable time with the principal or to attend
other lessons (like maths, sciences, ict) to give a feedback to my colleagues in my school in Greece. It
is good that we shall have opportunity to discuss with students from 6th form.
The programme became better day by day. However, our presence during some tests and their
correction could have been avoided. Moreover, it would be nice, when the trainee is a school
principal, to attend teaching of as many different subjects as possible so that he can have a better
view of a bigger variety of teaching methods in order to help the teachers at his own school. The
programme improved on Thursday and Friday. Maybe it should be restricted to three days rather
than five because it is tiring for the teachers of the host school as well.
I would like to suggest some improvements. For example, one day could be spent job shadowing the
principal discreetly, without disturbing and intervening in his/her work. This one, of course, has to
do with the policy of the school. Maybe, the criterion for choosing a host school could be how
flexible and facilitating they are towards trainees from overseas even though they are not
outstanding schools. The programme was very good for English language teachers. For teachers of
other subjects there were some gaps, indifferent moments and repetitions. In any case, it was a very
useful experience and I am sure that it will help me in the work at my school.
