Design of RC Stuctures:: Different Members of RCC Structures

Columns are vertical reinforced concrete members that primarily experience compression and support beams and slabs, transferring loads throughout the structure. Reinforced concrete consists of cement, water, fine and coarse aggregates, and reinforcing bars mixed according to proper procedures to achieve adequate workability, strength, and durability. Columns can be designed as either short or long columns depending on their length and supported loads.

DESIGN OF RC STUCTURES:

Different Members of RCC Structures

Columns: columns are another important elements of RC structure. These concrete

elements are predominantly compression member and supports beams and slabs
(in case of flat slab). It is a vertical member carrying both axial loads and moment.
In any structure columns has important safety consideration. RC columns can be
design as short column or long column.

The ingredients of the reinforced concrete are cement, water, fine aggregates,
coarse aggregates and reinforcing bar. If concrete is special concrete then
admixture and or other cementitious materials are added.
Quality of concrete depends on the quality of these ingredients, mix proportion,
mixing procedure, compaction, placing, curing. Describe workability, segregation,
bleeding, strength etc. of concrete properties.
