Design of RC Stuctures:: Different Members of RCC Structures

The document discusses the different members that make up reinforced concrete (RC) structures, including beams, columns, slabs, walls, and foundations. It specifically describes flat slabs, which are reinforced concrete slabs supported by columns without beams. Flat slabs can be solid or have recesses on the underside formed by ribs in two directions or removable/permanent filler blocks. The minimum thickness of a flat slab is 125mm according to design standards.

DESIGN OF RC STUCTURES:

Different Members of RCC Structures

Concrete is used for all standard building both single storey and multi-storey,
retaining structure and bridges. A concrete structure considered as consist of some
basic structural elements, such as beams, columns, slabs, walls and foundation.
The different elements of a RC structure are briefly described as bellow.

Another type of slab is flat slab. The term flat slab means a reinforced concrete slab
with or without drops, supported generally without beams, by columns with or
without flared column heads. A flat slab may be solid slab or may have recesses
formed on the soffit comprises a series of ribs in two directions. The recesses may
be formed by removable or permanent filler blocks. The thickness of a flat slab is
controlled by considerations of span to effective depth ratios as per IS 456:2000 cl.
23.2. The minimum thickness of a flat slab should be 125 mm.
