DESIGN OF RC STUCTURES:
Different Members of RCC Structures
Beams: beams are the most important elements of RC structure. It is a horizontal
member carrying transverse loads and transmits the load to vertical supporting
columns. Due to this loads beam will suffer flexural bending. Thus a compressive
zone will appear on the top and a tensile zone will appear on the bottom of a simply
supported beam. Main bars are provided in the longitudinal direction of the beam to
resist bending and on the other hand stirrups are provided in the transverses
direction to resist shear force. Two type of RC beam are there, 1 st one is singly
reinforced beam (reinforced is provide only on tensile zone) and 2 nd one is doubly
reinforced beam (reinforced is provide on both the tensile zone as well as
compression zone).Generally T-beams are used in interior of the building and L-
beams are use in the exterior of the building.
