Introduction To PSAF-1

This document provides instructions for using PSAF (Power Systems Analysis Framework) software to perform a power flow analysis on a 7 bus power system model. It outlines 12 steps for building the power system model in the software by inputting bus, line, transformer, generator and load data and describes how to run the power flow simulation and export the results to Microsoft Excel for examination. The steps guide the user through the key functions for setting up a power flow case study in PSAF.

Step-05: Input bus data using the Bus Information Table in previous step.

Step-06: From the

dropdown list
select Line.

Then click Show Table icon to open the Line tab in

new button of the
window and edit
the data as follows:

Then click Ok to
create the new ID
L1.
Step-07: Select Fixed Tap Transformer from the dropdown list as you did for
Line. Now give information for Fixed Tap Transformer using the table given in
step-04.

For this you

have to build
new database
entry for T12,
T34,T56. Follow
the same
procedure to
create these
IDs as you did
for L1.
Step-08: Select Generator from the dropdown list and input generator data
using the generator table given in step-04.

Create new database

ID G1. To do this
click on the button in
the Dbase ID
column and change
the value of X
under the title of
Steady State Z
from 0 to 0.001 and
then click new to
create the database
for G3

Similarly create the

database for G1
and G5.
Step-09: Now select Static Load from the dropdown list and input load data
from the Bus Information Table given in step-04.

Also edit the DbaseID column and insert load values at different buses.

Step-10: Now from Analysis menu

click Select Solver. A new window
named Engine Selection Dialog will
appear. Select Power Flow Analysis
from the window.

Step-11: Now from Analysis

menu click Study. A new window
named Load Flow Study Dialog
will open. Click Monitoring tab
of the window. Press Select and
a window will show the message
that items have been selected.
Then click Add to add the
selected items. Finally click Ok
to close the Study window.
Step-12: From
Analysis menu select
Solve. A new window
named Load Flow
Solver Dialog will open.
Select Newton-
Raphson, unselect
Apply constraint and
select Flat Start.
Selecting Flat Start
will assume 1pu voltage
magnitude and 0 degree
phase angle. Now click
solve.
Step-13: From Report menu select Show Text Report and report will open in
the bottom part of the screen.

Next take the cursor of the

mouse on the report and right
