EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this project in GLOBAL CONNECT SYNERGY is using GIS to view,
analyze, and understand data in ways that reveal patterns, relationships, and trends. In
addition to use GIS data for analyzing the effects of a fiber network expansion,
searching for new routes to direct internet traffic due to a natural disaster, or deciding
where to build an office building to satisfy connectivity requirements and to analyze the
current fiber infrastructure and making of web-based GIS product so that different
departments within a company can access the data and use it in various applications
including engineering, operations, research & development, marketing, finance, and
planning .

Moreover to use GIS data for businesses to see where they can better connect into a
fiber system and to monitor their vehicles and all kind of future planning as well is
included in the purpose.

At the current stage GIS department has made base maps and all other spatial
information which requires survey and GIS department also completed some model
surveys in order to realize the ground situations and what information they need to add
or subtract in maps for more accurate surveys.

Anticipated obstacles in this project are the absence of field department representative
which disturb the flow of work and the unavailability of battery chargers and stationary
also make problems in work. This project is expected to complete in 2 years from
November 2016 t0 November 2018.
INTRODUCTION
NATURE OF PROJECT:

The nature of the project is to map the spatial data, monitoring and planning of fiber
cables and its all related components by using the GIS technology. Firstly the data will
be collected by surveys then it will be plotted on GIS.

GOAL:

The goal of the project is to make the GIS database of fiber network, cameras,
attachment, hand holes and the associated geographic features along all required
information products. So that applications can be made on data for shortest route
analysis and for all kind of planning as well.

PROJECT VALUE TO THE COMPANY:

This project is very important because it is the first project of GIS in GLOBAL
CONNECT SYNERGY so it is considered as the base of GIS department. Many
companies in the market are making GIS-based fiber network because GIS has been
playing an important role in planning and problem solving. GIS-based fiber network is
used for more accurate mapping and planning of installed and new fiber network and
seamless management of the entire integrated infrastructure.

The deployment of network is very expensive so it needs handsome planning and Pre-
knowledge about the road network and other geographic features of that area of
interest. In addition GIS is also very useful for saving time, money and analyzing and
preparing the necessary data easily within very short timelines and high accuracy; the
work that takes weeks, may be months, can be done within few days and by small
teams.

The calculations of the digital maps and other infrastructural information of area of
interest are based on real geographic data that can be used for quick construction and
inventory managements very efficiently. That is why this project would be game changer
for the company.
METHODOLOGY

Firstly the work will start by the image acquisition. Purchasing image is very expensive
and the allotted budget is not sufficient to purchase it so image will be made by GIS
team using Bing cache. Secondary data will be taken from internet including shape files
and maps and will be extracted as per requirement. Survey data will be collected using
GPS device and wheel meter. Then satellite data, survey data and secondary will be
store in Geodatabase. The stored data including consumer, fiber network and CCTV
Cameras will be mapped in next step by using ARCGIS. After checking the information
products data will be published in web application.
RESOURCES NEEDED FOR THE PROJECT

MANPOWER:

In this project team of eight persons are required. Four in office and four in the field.
There will be two teams of field and office consisted on two persons. Each team will
work 3 days of week. If one team is unavailable then the other team will be on field or if
work load is there then both team will be on field. In office team one team is responsible
for managing survey data and the second team is responsible for QC and other works.

TOOLS:

GPS:

GPS systems are extremely versatile and can be found in almost any industry sector.
They can be used to map forests, help farmers harvest their fields, and navigate
airplanes on the ground or in the air. GPS systems are used in military applications and
by emergency crews to locate people in need of assistance. GPS technologies are often
working in many areas that we do not normally consider.

Global positioning system applications generally fall into 5 major categories:

1. Location - determining a position

2. Navigation - getting from one location to another
3. Tracking - monitoring object or personal movement
4. Mapping - creating maps of the world
5. 5. GPS attached Camera for geo-tagging
6. Timing - bringing precise timing to the world

In this project two GPS are required for making tracks of survey and taking absolute
locations of the different components of fiber network and cameras as well which is the
base of the project.

MEASURING TAPE:

A tape measure or measuring tape is a flexible ruler. It consists of a ribbon of cloth,

plastic, fiber glass, or metal strip with linear-measurement markings. It is a common
measuring tool. Its design allows for a measure of great length to be easily carried in
pocket or toolkit and permits one to measure around curves or corners.
In this project measuring tape is required for different measurements in the field
including width of footpath and distance of attachment and hand hole as well.
WHEELMETER:

A surveyor's wheel, also called wheel meter is a device for measuring distance.
Surveyor's wheels will provide a measure of good accuracy on a smooth surface, such as
pavement. On rough terrain, wheel slippage and bouncing can reduce the accuracy. Soft
sandy or muddy soil can also affect the rolling of the wheel. As well, obstacles in the way
of the path may have to be accounted for separately.

Good surveyors will keep track of any circumstance on the path that can influence the
accuracy of the distance measured and either measure that portion with an alternative,
such as a surveyor's tape or measuring tape, or make a reasonable estimate of the
correction to apply.

In this project wheel meter is required for measuring the distance between the hand
holes which is used for crosschecking when plotting the survey data on GIS.

TIMELINE

The above picture describes the tentative timeline of the project. If the work continues
smoothly without any major problem then flow of the work will follow the timeline
perfectly.

The millstones show the completion of important phases of the project. The complete
duration of the project is 11 November 2016 to 12 December 2018.
PROJECT CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

Project may run into anticipated challenges or unexpected setbacks. Challenges might
include insufficient resources, unexpected obstacles, mechanical or technical failures,
or other delays.
These are some project challenges and their solution.

1) Absence of relevant person from technical department may produce some delay
in the project.

if someone is not able to come so he has to inform early so other person can go in
place of him that is why One person has to be on backup every time.

2) Unavailability of vehicle is also one of the problems of this project and can
produce problems in flow of work.

Field surveys has to be preplanned excluding the case of urgency , and the field
manger is to be informed early so he can make necessary adjustments for field.

3) Problems in Computer systems can produce delay in project because this project
is based on information technology.

This problem can be overcome if there is availability of replacement so that the

computer can be replaced on urgent basis.

4) Field equipments are one of the main components of this project and if they give
problems then it would produce problems in flow of work.

There has to be replacement of every field equipment so work continues smoothly.

SUMMARY:

The aim of this project is to make the fiber network on GIS by getting data through
surveys. so the managers and planners can do effective planning and time saving
analysis by using GIS technology which is not easy in present condition when all data is
in excel sheets .

After making all network on GIS different application will be made for shortest route,
searching specific consumer, finding fault locations and getting information of fiber
network and all its related components specifically.
