Ss will be able to call a doctors office and make an appointment.

L, S Warm-Up: Word Game T -Class


12:45- T explains how to the play the game to the
1:00 Ss.
T writes her name on the board and a word.
The Ss must write their name and a word
that starts with the last letter of the
previous students word.
L, S Review: Have/ Has & Whats the T-Class
1:05- Matter? S-S
1:25 T reads the vocabulary words, Ss repeat. T Pairs
puts the Ss into pairs. Using a photocopy of
the vocabulary words and pictures, Ss will
take turns asking their partner Whats the
matter? Partner looks at the picture and
replies ex. She has a headache.
L, S, R, W Spelling Game & Spelling Test: S-S
1:30- T divides the class into 2 teams. One T-Class
1:40 student from each team will come up to the
board. T gives them the same word and they
have to spell it. Their teams can help them
spell, but the first student to spell the word
the quickest and correctly, gets the point.
After all the words have been practiced, Ss
will write the spelling test.
R, W, L, S Discussion Questions: T-Class
1:45- T has some discussion questions for the Ss S-S
2:00 to answer. First, T goes over the questions Groups
with the Ss for comprehension, then Ss copy
down the questions. After, T puts Ss into
groups to ask and answer the questions.
Finally, come together as a class and discuss
ideas.

2:15- Dialogue
2:30 T elicits questions about making a doctors

appt. What is an appointment? T and Ss


brainstorm different types of appointments
people make. T writes ideas down on the
board. T asks Ss Who answers the phone?
A: receptionist. T goes over pronunciation
for appointment and receptionist.

Learn: Dialogue
T hands out the dialogue to the Ss. T reads
the dialogue, Ss listen. T checks for
comprehension and answers any questions.
T reads dialogue again, Ss repeat. T puts the
Ss into pairs to practice the dialogue. One
student is A and the other is B. Change
partners once. Have volunteers read to the
class.
L, R, W Listening Dictation (dialogue): T-Class
2:30- T hands out the fill in the blanks dialogue S-S
2:45 worksheet. Have 2 Ss read the dialogue to Class
the class. Ss fill in the blanks. Have 2 new Ss
read the dialogue, so the previous Ss can
complete the worksheet. Afterwards, get the
Ss to check their spelling.
R, W, L, S Closing: Create Your Own Dialogue/Role T-Class
2:45- Play S-S
3:15 T puts Ss into pairs (Ss can use the dialogue Pairs
as an example to create their own dialogue Class
for their role play). One student is the
receptionist and the other is the patient
making an appointment. T facilitates and
helps with any questions while Ss write their
dialogue. When all the Ss are done, have
them present for the rest of the class.
*If there is extra time, the class can play a
game of pantomime. T has ailment words
written on paper. T calls Ss up one at a time
to act out each ailment without speaking.
The class has to guess the ailment. Ex. She
has a backache.

Community Contact Activity:


Ss can call a doctors office after hours to listen for the office hours.

Extension Activities:
Leaving a message on an answering machine for the doctors office.

Assessment activities:
Ss listen to a recorded conversation between a patient and a receptionist. Ss must
listen for important information such as date, time and patients name, and then
answer comprehension questions.
