QR CODE

QR code (abbreviated from Quick

Response Code) is the trademark for a type
of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional
barcode) first designed for the automotive
industry in Japan. A barcode is a machine-
readable optical label that contains
information about the item to which it is
attached. A QR code uses four standardized
encoding modes (numeric, alphanumeric,
byte/binary, and kanji) to efficiently store
data; extensions may also be used.

The QR code system became popular

A QR code consists of black squares

arranged in a square grid on a white
background, which can be read by an
imaging device such as a camera, and
processed using ReedSolomon error
correction until the image can be
appropriately interpreted. The required data
is then extracted from patterns that are
present in both horizontal and vertical
components of the image.

HISTORY
The QR code system was invented in 1994
by Denso Wave. Its purpose was to track
vehicles during manufacturing; it was

characters, consisting of uppercase letters (A
through Z), numeric digits (0 through 9) and
a number of special characters (-, ., $, /,
+, %, and space). An additional character
(denoted '*') is used for both start and stop
delimiters. Each character is composed of
nine elements: five bars and four spaces.
Three of the nine elements in each character
are wide (binary value 1), and six elements
are narrow (binary value 0). The width ratio
between narrow and wide is not critical, and
may be chosen between 1:2 and 1:3.

2. QR codes are also handy for various

branding purposes. They can be used to
direct mobile phone users to special
websites to download brandads, ring tones,

3.Retailers print them on receipts.

4.Event producers employ them to provide exhibit

5. Doctor's offices use them to let people make
appointments over their mobile phones.

6.Googles URL shortener will now create a QR
