LISTENING
THE BIG WIND BLOWS works similar to that of musical chair game.
1. Before the game started, teacher prepares WORDS OF THE DAY based on topic of the lesson (5
words X 4 sets = 20 pcs) make into word strips, make students read their own strips
2. Students sit in their own chair, while teacher calls out a word, the respective students will stand up.
Next, teacher calls out another word and gradually increase the number of words (1, then 2, 3, 4)
3. Arrange chairs to form a circle, one chair to each student, minus one.
4. Teacher explains about the game: there will be one person standing up while the other sitting down,
each time a word (or more) is called out, respective students should stand up and change seats. The
person standing up also gets a chance to rebut seat to sit down. Students are NOT ALLOWED to sit in
the same seat (must move). Teacher repeats until students get familiar with the game.
5. Advanced: the student standing up gets to call out the words
BINGO uses a piece of paper with a 5x5 grid
1. Each student gets a grid
2. Teacher says the words of the day. Students listen and write each word down in any of the grid at
random.
- Students are not allowed to look at each others paper.
- If students are weak, teacher might assist them with spelling.
3. When everyone is done, teacher says aloud a word and students have to cross the word out.
4. Continue the steps until the first student/group gets a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line completed.
5. Teacher might give points to the student/ group.
PUT-IN-ORDER prepare a few sets of 10 items (objects or flashcards)

1. Put students in teams and have them sit together.


2. Give each group a set of 10 items each team gets the same
3. Teacher encourages students to say out the names of objects/words on their table.
4. Then, the teacher says all the words, students listen but must not touch the objects or flashcards.
5. Finally, teacher says put the object in the correct order and teams have to put them in order
according to the order the teacher said.
6. Have each group present their work, and compare the answer.
7. Groups that get correct answer get a point (note down in a grid on the board)
8. ADVANCED: do in ascending, descending order etc
SPEAKING
DICE CHALLENGE the teacher prepares a few sets of questions related to the topic and print them out.
1. Students take turns to roll the dice and answer the questions.

What is your favourite food?


When is your birthday?

ASK-AND-FILL the teacher prepares a table for the students to fill in (according to the topic)
1. Assign the students to find out about their friends according to the current topic.
Example:
Food what is your favorite fruit?
Sports what do play during free time?
2. Students fill the table
Find out what your friends would like to eat. Ask them in English, what would you like to eat for ...?

3. Students share their findings to the class.


ROLE PLAY AND RATE prepare (1) a few simple dialogues (2) a rating table in a piece of paper
1. Assign a dialogue to each pair/ group.
2. Students practice and perform in front of the class
(ideas! Give each group a piece of paper, rate other groups performances and manners, ask group to
cut point groups that make noises while other groups performing)
3. Other groups rate and give points to the pair/ group performing
4. Select best performer (based on pronunciation, confidence, creativity and votes from other groups)

READING
TRUE OR FALSE prepare a paragraph (to individuals or groups)
1. Students read paragraph on their own. They underline words they dont understand and search for
the meaning together.
2. Students are given similar paragraph (displayed in form of sentences).
3. They read sentence by sentence to check if it is true or false according to the original paragraph.
DICTATION
1. Put students into groups.
2. Each group is given a set of questions or fill-in-the-blanks worksheet.
3. Group members take turns to run outside the class to read the answer, and return to the group to
share the answer.
1 STAY, 3 STRAY 1 as the writer and stays all the time to write down the answer, paste word strips
everywhere inside or outside of the classroom
1. Students are put into groups.
2. One stays as the writer and the rest of the members stray around to search for words/ sentences
pasted by the teacher
3. The members have to read the sentence, return to the writer and tell him/her what the
word/sentence is
4. IDEAS: either to search, read and write ALL the sentences or to only select the correct sentences.

WRITING
ROLL-A-SENTENCE use a custom-made dice to make a complete sentence.
- Prepare strips: Katie, my brother, the teacher, likes to ride a bike, laughs at my jokes, etc
- Prepare two dices, one has 4 subjects (pasted on all four sides), another has 4 verbs+objects (on
all four sides)
- Wrap the dices with plastic wrapper
- Prepare a writing template that looks like below (and put them in a plastic so that students can
reuse it many times using a whiteboard marker)

SENTENCE SEARCH for a 30-minute lesson. There are two ways to carry this activity out:
1. Ask students to search for the provided sentence (suitable to beginners and weak students)
2. Ask students to search for correct sentences with guidance (suitable for advanced students)
