1.0 Introduction
My name is Ng Wei De. People or friends around me could call me as Victor. I am born
on the date 25th December 1993 which is on Christmas day. I am currently 24 years old
and I am from the turtle island which is Terengganu. My hometown is more on relaxing
life with beach yet less entertainment. I am currently studying for my final year of my
Bachelor in Marketing (BMAUH) program in INTI College Subang Jaya. I like to spend
my time to look for things I like online and listening to music. Furthermore, I am also
here very outgoing person so I spend a lot of times with my friends and family by going
out having tea times or movies. Most of my friends are starting to work and sometimes I
will ask them about their experiences since I only have one last year to study, I need to
get prepare and start to work next year. I am quite interested with the marketing industry
and will choose marketing or sales as my job, I am also prepared to face any new
challenges. My ambition is that live a healthy life with my family. I never think that
wealth as having a lot of money instead having people who cares about me will always
be my wealth.

1.1 SMART Goals
Based on my research, SMART goals are actually created by G.T Doran and it is to set a goal
in a much more productive manner and effective. The SMART goal is defined as specific,
measureable, attainable, relevant and time bound so it will leads to a clearer direction towards
our goal (Doran, G. T, 1981).

1.1.1Short Term Goal


From my understanding, short term goal is something we would like to achieve in a short
period of time. As my short term goal is to try my best to get above 50% for all the subjects in
this current semester. Every semester in the final year of degree program are very important
because it contains 75% of CGPA.

1.1.2 Mid Term Goal


Based on my understanding, medium goal is what we start from the short term goal and it
will be connected with the long term goal. As for my mid-term goal, I want to pass my entire
subject for my final year and graduate on December 2017. I will also try my best and put
more effort on every assignment to achieve at least second-upper class in my degree program
because it will look better and easier to find a better job as it will leave a good first
impression.

1.1.3 Long Term Goal


As my long term goal so it becomes an experience marketing manager in one of those listed
company by the age of 35. I know that a lot of challenges that I will be facing, I need to work
hard and make sure I improve myself during my work time. Furthermore, I hope that I will be
successful in the industry and being look up to a lot of people and share our experiences
together with those good marketers out there. After this is achieved, I would like to take care
of my family and have a great time enjoying my life.

2.0 Learning Style
Based on my research, a learning style is not an ability but rather than a preferred way of
using ones abilities (Sternberg, 1994). Every individual have different learning styles as it is
how they naturally preferred ways of absorbing and retaining new information and skills
(Reid, 1995). There are three types of learning styles which are auditory learner, visual
learner and tactile learner. With different styles of learning style have different own potential
of advantages and disadvantages (Drnyei 2005). In my opinion, I think that the learning
styles are not fixed modes of behaviour and sometimes it is based on the situations and tasks,
as an individual can extend or shift their styles to actually suit a particular situation (Ehrman
1996).

2.1 My Learning Style


From the week 1 class activity, there is a session which is prepared by Ms Kannaki about a
self-assessment on identifying which learning style of each of us. It shows that I am a tactile
learner (Figure 1), I need to always take and keep notes and always remember something by
written down several times. In my opinion, the result is pretty accurate for me as I always
write down things I want to remember and it also helps with writing the correct words. Every
time before an exam is coming, I will always rewrite all the notes and points so I could
remember them, it is also useful that when I am copying the notes, I will try to think of a way
to remember every point. Based on my understanding, tactile learner are based more on their
emotion so when I copying notes, I like to do it alone while listening to music that I like
(Pourhosein Gilakjani, 2011). In my opinion, this is currently the best way for me to study. As
I am the person who learn things when I do something, for example in class physical activity
could makes me understand a thing better. All in all, I think practices makes perfect.

2.2 Action plan


Since I am a tactile learner, I found that it is very important for me to take notes in class and
also written out to be able to understand it very well. I need to highlight what lecturer says is
important and written out in another sheet of paper so I can memorize everything easily. As I
always need my friends to have a group study, so they can explain the notes for me and I will
written down in my way and try to study myself. In my opinion, I think studying as a small
group is always effective, which is cooperative learning. As this groups are always long-term
groups with the same members meeting often and long lasting duration, as it becomes a
learning support group (Johnson et al., 1998).

3.0 Strength and Weakness
Based on my understand, strength has always been what we are good and confident at, in
contrast our weakness is what we are bad of and some may be a part where we dont want to
show to others.

3.1 Strength
From my personality, I also mentioned that I would like to be a sales and marketing
executive. My strength for myself is that I am a very positive, cheerful and also creative
person. I can think of ideas that are out of the box, something that can entertainment others, a
person whom is always cheerful that people could always depend on me when they are down.
I can express myself easily and also have very high self-esteem so I dont always take others
criticize seriously and I dont remember sad things for long period. After I attend the Who
am I talk which is presented by Ms Teow Ker Shin, it also helps me to understand myself
more (Figure 2). There are few strengths that it is very suitable me such as innovative,
expressive and independent. As I am also living alone now by renting a room here far from
my hometown, i am a quite independent person. Not only that, I also went for exchange
student to Finland for 2 months, I learnt a lot about their culture during this program. I hope
all this strength could be a step closer or makes me become a better sales and marketing
executive.

3.2 Weakness (Area of imrpovement)


As for weakness, I am a procrastination person and I am always late. This is a bad habit and I
need to get rid of it as fast as possible. The way to improve this is to have good time
management skills which are very important in life. I need to make a schedule and always
done the task on time. Next, I am not good at making decision making. I am confident but I
dont like to make decision because I will worry that I might make the wrong move and the
only way to overcome this is to have more knowledge on the particular field so it will leads
me to the right decision.

4.0 Skill Set Analysis
I want to become a sales and marketing executive in a listed company in Malaysia. Locus T
(Figure 3) can be one of my potential choices in the future as I am quite interesting with
selling internet platform for expanding business for others.

Currently I am taking Degree in Marketing from University of Hertfordshire so I met one of
the knowledge requirements for the position but I have no working experience since I am a
fresh graduate. For the skills, I could write and speak English so it wont be a problem. I need
to make more research for Googles product and also learn how to speak at least the basic
using Cantonese. Next is for the attitude, I am an independent person whom can stay calm
when problem occur. Furthermore, I am also very friendly so I can collaborate with the team
members as well as have good relationship with my customers.

In order to gain 2 or 3 years working experience, I need to apply for a company which accept
fresh graduate. I will stay in the company at least 3 years to learn as much knowledge as
possible and most importantly gain more experiences in the period of time. All of these will
be very useful in the future.

Next, I think that Cantonese is quite important so I plan to learn this. I need to watch more
movies or drama and communicate with my friends by using Cantonese. This is quite
important especially when we work at KL or Penang.

In Malaysia, having fluent Bahasa Melayu could bring very good advantages. I will read
more Bahasa Melayu books and have to practice it. Since this is a country with majority of
Malays, it could be useful since most of your customers will be Malay and there is how you
build and maintain good relationship with them.

Lastly, Improving professional services to customer, now I have not much knowledge in
making good services as the seller. In my opinion, attending more talks could gain more
knowledge by having them share their experiences. Not to forget to mention, by providing
good marketing services is how you gain trust from your customers.

6.0 Conclusion
In conclusion, through this reflective report I have more understanding towards myself and
also what I want to achieve. I think that there are a lot of skills, experience and also
knowledge I am lacking, as I am growing up and entering the industry, I am looking forward
to learn everything and prepare to face any challenges. As for now, I would focus more on my
studies and having part time if I got any free time. No matter what, I will try my best to
achieve my goals and have a healthy and happy family in the future. Lastly, I am glad to
attend some of the talks which is very interested and gain some extra knowledge from it.
