- To practice vocabulary on food
- To give pupils practice in using reading skills

Materials: flashcards, textbook, worksheets, blackboard, poems

Anticipated problems
- Pupils might find it difficult to practice vocabulary on food.
- Possible solution a game to motivate them.
Activity 1 Warm up
Aim: to check homework
Procedure
1. Teacher greets pupils and pupils greet back; teacher checks for absentees.
2. Then, teacher asks pupils their homework.
3. Pupils answer and check homework.

Activity 2 Introduce the new lesson


Aim: to practice speaking
Procedure
1. Teacher starts by asking pupils if they like going shopping.
2. Pupils answer and then teacher asks where they like to go, and what they
like to buy; they answer.
3. Teacher presents the new title of the lesson.
4. Pupils write in their notebooks.

Activity 3 Vocabulary food


Aim: to learn new words related on food
Procedure
1. Pupils receive a worksheet which contains images with food and drink and
the words for them.
2. Pupils have to guess and match the food with the correct word.
3. They work in pairs, to help each other.
4. Teacher corrects the mistakes.

Activity 4 Group work activity
Aim: to practice group work
Procedure
1. Teacher tells pupils to hide the worksheet, and pay attention to the teacher.
2. Pupils work in groups.
3. Teacher asks pupils: What is number 3 on your worksheet? Do you
remember? What is number 12? etc
4. The group which gives faster the answer receives the point.
5. The best group wins.

Activity 5 Speaking activity


Aim: to improve communication
Procedure
1. Pupils receive a worksheet with questions.
2. They have to answer them, what is their favorite drink, food etc.
3. They write their answers on their paper.
4. Then, they read aloud their answers.

Activity 5 Writing activity


Aim: to practice the vocabulary on food
Procedure
1. Pupils receive a worksheet with food.
2. First, they resolve exercise 1, in which they have the image of the product
and four words under each image and they have to choose the right word.
Then, they resolve exercise 2, in which they have to write under each image
what kind of food and drink is.
3. Pupils work individually.
4. After they finish resolving the exercises they check with the teacher.

Activity 5 Reading activity


Aim: to read poetries
Procedure
1. Teacher gives to pupils some handouts with poetries about food.
2. Teacher leaves pupils a few minutes to read silently the poetries.
3. Then, teacher asks pupils who would like to read the first poetry, then next
and so on.
4. The pupils who read more correct the poetries win the competition.
