    Gliclazide is a brand name drug used to treat type 2 diabetes by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas and increasing insulin sensitivity. It works by lowering blood glucose levels. The recommended dosage is 60mg twice daily by mouth. Gliclazide is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity, unstable diabetes, type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, coma, severe liver or kidney disease, or who consume alcohol. Side effects include hypoglycemia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, increased liver enzymes, nausea, vomiting, photosensitivity and rashes.
