Tutorial 1 and Other Info

This document provides a list of tutorial exercises for students in a spring 2017 textbook tutorial. It includes specific exercise numbers from chapters 1, 2, and 14. There are also 3 computer labs assigned throughout the semester to help students learn and practice using statistical software. The note explains that students should attempt all tutorial exercises to learn both the p-value and critical value approaches to hypothesis testing. Labs will teach how to use software, but chapter 14 problems can be answered by interpreting software outputs in exams.

NOTE:
You should attempt all the tutorial exercises. For hypothesis testing, students need
to learn 2 methods of testing: p-value approach and critical value approach.
Unless otherwise specified, the default testing procedure in tests/exam is the
critical value approach (but you may be asked about the p-value approach).
There are 3 computer labs which enable you to learn and practice with a statistical
software. In the tests/exam, you may be asked to provide solutions to problems by
hand or by reading software outputs (for problems that are within the scope of the
three labs). For problems of chapter 14, you are not required to complete by hand
in tests/exam, but you are expected to know how to read software outputs. More
information about the labs will be provided later.
