Target Audience

The Target Audience of a media product is specifically the age range of a group of
media consumers that a media product is intentionally produced and advertised for.
The target audience of a media product is usually determined by different factors,
which are defined as the different segments;
Demographics The measurable characteristics of media consumers.
Psychographics The use of sociological, psychological and anthropological
factors to determine the decisions media consumers make with regards to
films.
Geographics The locations of the media consumer(s).
Consumer Behaviour The patterns of behaviour that media consumers
follow with regards to the type of films they purchase.
With this in mind, it is clear that knowing the specific group(s) of people that you
want to focus your product towards is crucial to its success. When taking the target
audience of a film into account, one needs to consider the films relatability to its
audience, the content itself, and the purpose of the film. Without thinking about these
factors in great detail, the film will most likely be a failure because it wont be
marketed for the most appropriate audience.

When taking our BBFC into account, we need to market the film to an audience that
would satisfy it. For this reason, our target audience is between the ages of 12 and
80 (mainly teens and adults), as this satisfies a certification of 12A. The reason why
a large majority of our intended audience are adults is because the short film itself
deals with a mature and somewhat difficult topic, therefore we would like to have a
mature audience to complement it. By having a large target audience, we will most
definitely have a large percentage that can relate to the narrative of the film on a
personal level, thus being able to relate to the characters in the short film.
