To Whom it May Concern,
Re: Carlyn Duckett
It is my sincere pleasure to write this letter of recommendation of behalf of
Carlyn, who I have known for the past year in my capacity as Associate
Professor of Art, English and Media Education in the Faculty of Education at
the University of Alberta, Canada. In my eight years at the University of
Alberta, it is rare to meet a student with the degree of pedagogical passion,
skill and expertise possessed by Carlyn. An exemplary teacher-researcher,
Carlyn consistently remains abreast of innovations and trends in English
Language Arts research, bringing such movements to bear upon her robust
pedagogical practice and planning for future students. Carlyn is a keen
social critic and demonstrates graduate level capacity to analyse, research,
and write.
Carlyn is the kind of student on tends to remember for a long time. In the
thirteen weeks she was a student in my curriculum course for English
Language Arts minors, Carlyn established herself as an intellectual leader
conversant in a wider range of literature and literary styles. Furthermore,
Carlyn established herself and her work at the cutting-edge of new media,
integrating film, graphic novels, urban poetry and classical fiction into her
classroom plans. I have no doubt that Carlyns future teaching career will be
laudable for its creative approach and innovation in the field toward new
modes of textual production and analysis. In the classroom, Carlyn was well
prepared and deliberate. Her activities were engaging and flexible to the
input of students and colleagues. Carlyn demonstrated strong
understanding of curricular objectives and formative assessment strategies
oriented to student growth and skill development.
As a former school administrator, I can sincerely say that Carlyn is the kind
of teacher I would want for my own staff. She is diligent, dependable, and
consistent in the quality of her output. Her plans for the classroom
demonstrated care and attention to the youth that she will teach. She
demonstrates a strong balance between academic and popular sensibility
that is characteristic of strong teachers today. I unreservedly endorse her for
any teaching position.
Sincerely,

Jason J. Wallin
