Gyan Bharati School S 1 Physics Assignment: Motion

The document contains a physics assignment on motion with 14 problems involving concepts like distance, displacement, speed, velocity, uniform and non-uniform acceleration. The problems require calculating values for distance, displacement, acceleration, speed, average speed/velocity, and drawing velocity-time and distance-time graphs for bodies experiencing different types of motion.

S 1 PHYSICS ASSIGNMENT
MOTION
1. Ashok covered a distance of 40 m due east. Then he turned north and further covered
distance of 30 m. What is the total distance covered by him? What is the total
displacement?

2. The minute hand of a wall clock is 10 cm long. Find its displacement and the distance
covered from 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.

3. Shatabdi Express starting from rest attains a velocity of 108 km/h in 2 min. Assuming the
acceleration to be uniform, find the value of the acceleration and the distance covered by
the train for attaining this velocity.

4. A 100 m sprinter uniformly increases his speed from rest at the rate of 1 m/s 2. How
much time does he take to complete the race? What is his final speed?

5. A body starting from rest moves along a straight line. It accelerates uniformly at the
rate of 2 m/s2 for 10 sec. For the next 20 sec, the body moves with uniform velocity.
Then a negative acceleration of 2m/s2 acts on the body till the body comes to rest
again. Draw a velocity-time graph for the entire motion. Also find out the total
distance covered by the body during its motion.

6. A train travels a distance of 20 km with a uniform speed of 60 km/h. It travels another

distance of 40 km with a uniform speed of 80 km/h. Calculate the average speed of
the train.

7. On a 120 km track, a train travels the first 30 km at a uniform speed of 30 km/h. How
fast must the train travel the next 90 km so as to average 60 km/h for the entire trip?

8. A bus covers a distance of 250 km from Delhi to Jaipur towards West in 5 hours in the
morning and returns to Delhi in the evening covering the same distance of 250 km in
the same time of 5 hours. Find the average speed and the average velocity of the bus
for the whole journey.

9. A bus was moving with a speed of 54 km/h. On applying brakes it stopped in 8 sec.
Calculate the acceleration.
10. A motor cycle moving with a speed of 5 m/s is subjected to an acceleration of 0.2 m/s 2.
Calculate the speed of the motor cycle after 10 seconds, and the distance travelled by
in this time.

11. Derive the three equations of uniformly accelerated motion.

12. A cyclist is cycling at a uniform velocity of 8m/s for 8 seconds. He then stops paddling
and the cycle comes to rest in next 10 seconds. Draw the velocity-time graph and
calculate

i. The average retardation.

ii. The distance travelled with uniform velocity
iii. The distance covered with variable velocity
iv. The average velocity of the cyclist.

13. Draw the velocity –time graphs for the following situations:
i. When the body is moving with a uniform velocity
ii. When the body is moving with a variable velocity and uniform acceleration.
iii. When the body is moving with a variable velocity and uniform deceleration.
iv. When the body is moving with a variable velocity and variable acceleration.

14. Draw the distance-time graph for the following situations:

i. When the body is stationary
ii. When the body is moving with a uniform speed
iii. When the body is moving with a variable speed and uniform acceleration.
