The student must show their understanding of light and optics by presenting on visible light, reflection and refraction, concave and convex lenses and mirrors, and how the eye works. *** Objective: Understand the Light and Optics Unit for Grade 8 Science***
What do I have to do?
You need to show me:
1. You understand Visible Light
a. Shadows (umbra and penumbra)
b. Angles of Incidence and angles of reflection of visible light
c. Reflection and Refraction
2. You understand Concave vs Convex
a. How does light interact with transparent, translucent and
opaque materials
b. How does light interact with concave and convex mirrors
and lens
3. You understand how the eye works
a. Diagram of how eye sees
b. Compare human vision with that of other vertebrates and
invertebrates, including the function and design of the eye
How do I do this?
Can use posters, power-point, clay model, skit, song, poem, movie, etc. to
describe your understanding
*Must include 2 experiments (through YouTube videos or on your own)
**can use material in class (remember I have prisms or different kinds of
mirrors or lens if needed) or can buy your own
