CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Organization:An organization is a group of people who work together, like a neighborhood association, a
charity, a union, or a corporation. Organization is the formal group of people contributing their
efforts by bringing all the resources together for the achievement of predetermined objectives
.According to Raiman Organization is the process of defining and grouping the activities of the
enterprise and establishing the authority relationship among them.

Management:Management is the art of getting things done through others and with others with the help of
some basic activities like planning, organizing, directing, motivating, controlling the efforts of
others towards the specific objective. Management is the distinct process consisting of planning,
organizing, activating, and controlling perform activities to determine and accomplish stated
objectives by the use of human beings and other resources. In another sense the word
management is constituted with three words i.e manage-men-t which means to manage human
resources tactfully for the achievement of organizational goals.

Hierarchy:Hierarchy is the chain of command in which a group of persons are organized into successive
ranks or grades with each level subordinate to the one above.
There are three Levels of Management. They are:

Top Level Management


Middle Level Management
First/lower Management

Top Level Management:This level is also known as key or brain of the management. It consists of board of directors,
chief executive or managing director. The top management is the ultimate source of authority
and it manages goals and policies for an enterprise. It devotes more time on planning and
coordinating functions. Top management translates the policy (formulated by the board-ofdirectors) into goals, objectives, and strategies, and projects a shared-vision of the future. It
makes decisions that affect everyone in the organization, and is held entirely responsible for
the success or failure of the enterprise. The functions of top level management are as
follows:

Top management lays down the objectives and broad policies of the enterprise.

It issues necessary instructions for preparation of department budgets, procedures,


schedules etc.

It prepares strategic plans & policies for the enterprise.

It appoints the executive for middle level i.e. departmental managers.

It controls & coordinates the activities of all the departments.

It is also responsible for maintaining a contact with the outside world.

It provides guidance and direction.

The top management is also responsible towards the shareholders for the performance
of the enterprise.

Middle Level Management:The branch managers and departmental managers constitute middle level. They are
responsible to the top management for the functioning of their department. They devote more
time to organizational and directional functions. In small organization, there is only one layer
of middle level of management but in big enterprises, there may be senior and junior middle
level management. The managers of this level have to report about the accomplishment of
work to top level and instruct to lower level management. The following are the major
functions of this level:

They execute the plans of the organization in accordance with the policies and
directives of the top management.

They make plans for the sub-units of the organization.

They participate in employment & training of lower level management.

They interpret and explain policies from top level management to lower level.

They are responsible for coordinating the activities within the division or department.

It also sends important reports and other important data to top level management.

They evaluate performance of junior managers.

They are also responsible for inspiring lower level managers towards better
performance.

Lower Level Management:This level is also known as first line or operating level of management. It is directly
involved in actual operation of production, marketing financing, accounting etc. It consists of
supervisors, foreman, section officers, superintendent etc. According to R.C. Davis,
Supervisory management refers to those executives whose work has to be largely with
personal oversight and direction of operative employees. In other words, they are concerned
with direction and controlling function of management. This level is directly responsible for
the completion of works and planned objectives. The functions of lower level management
are as follows:

Assigning of jobs and tasks to various workers.

They guide and instruct workers for day to day activities.

They are responsible for the quality as well as quantity of production.

They are also entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining good relation in the
organization.

They communicate workers problems, suggestions, and recommendatory appeals etc


to the higher level and higher level goals and objectives to the workers.

They help to solve the grievances of the workers.

They supervise & guide the sub-ordinates.

They are responsible for providing training to the workers.

They arrange necessary materials, machines, tools etc for getting the things done.

They prepare periodical reports about the performance of the workers.

They ensure discipline in the enterprise.

They motivate workers.

They are the image builders of the enterprise because they are in direct contact with
the workers.

1.2 Objectives of the Study


We have conducted this project for various objectives like:- knowing about the present
condition of levels of management in an organization of Nepal. The followings are the
objectives of the study:4

To know about the hierarchical levels of management of an organization.


To know how the management is done effectively in an organization.
To know about the functions of levels of management.
To know whether the managerial works are performed according to the book of grade
XII.
To find out the managerial works done in KIMS.
To find out the authority and responsibility of levels of management.

. 1.3 Statement of the Problems

Does the organization follows proper hierarchy or not?


Does the academic syllabus of grade XII corresponds to the present situation of
organization?
Is there the co-ordination between all levels of staffs of an organization?
Do the staffs of the organization use their authority at correctly?
Does the organization delegate right authority to the right person?

1.4 Limitation of the Study


The study attempts to evaluate overall levels of the management. However it was difficult
to receive the available information. Basically, the study has following limitation:

This project is prepare to fulfill requirement of HSEB, cannot cover the entire
dimension due to inadequate duration of time.
Only one organization for the sample is taken.
Basically, the analysis is based on primary data, secondary data is also used but
secondary data is not adequate.
Inadequate resources are also one of the limitations of this project.

1.5 Significance of the Study


This research is very useful to all the parties like investors, managers, Board of Directors,
organization staffs and general public who may be directly or indirectly related to the cooperative

society.

Academicians, research, scholars, students and policy makers may be benefited from this
study as it tends to give some practical knowledge that can be very useful to turn the
theoretical knowledge into practical field.

1.6 Research Methodology

In order to make study more reliable, both primary and secondary resources have been used
in collecting data, tax and statistics. But most of the analysis is used on primary data.
Secondary data has also been used to some extent.
Various photographs are taken. Interviews and the questionnaire are the sources of primary
data whereas the course book, website, notices etc are the secondary data used in this project.

1.7 Organization of the Study:This project has been organized in three chapters as below
Chapter I: Introduction: The first chapter deals with introduction. This includes
background of the study, objectives of the study, statement of the problem, limitation of
study, significance of the study, research methodology.
Chapter II: Data Presentation and Analysis: this chapter includes the statistical and
diagrammatic presentation of data collected through primary and secondary sources.
Chapter III: Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation: this chapter includes the
summary of the project, conclusions drawn from project and suggestion and
recommendations provided for further improvement.

CHAPTER TWO

Hierarchy is the chain of command in which a group of persons are organized into
successive ranks or grades with each level subordinate to the one above.
In the above figure we can find that in the top level there is Mr. Prem Bahadur Gurung
as Principal. In the middle level of management there is Mr. Rabindra Kumar Shrestha and
Mr Dambar Bahadur Karki as Vice Principal. Mr Rabindra Kumar Shrestha is handling
education department as well as Mr. Dambar Bahadur Karki is working on ECA department.
In the low level of management we can find three persons i.e. Mrs. Sita Devi Gurung who
works as the supervisor and coordinator. Mrs. Bindira Manandhar who works as receptionist
and accountant. Mrs. Sabina Shakya who works as a primary in charge of the organization.

2.2 Functions of various levels of management


Top Level Management:
The functions of top level management are as follows:

To make strategic plans such as upliftment of the schools standard, improvement of


school etc.
To make the objectives of the school such as providing qualitative education,
increasement of branches of school.
To direct and control the subordinates for the effectiveness of their work in the
organization.
To delegate authorities to the subordinates to perform their works in the school.

Middle Level Management:


The functions of middle level management are as follows:Education department:

To make plans for the improvement in education sector.


To prepare plans for the way of providing effective education.
To supervise whether the education is provided in qualitative way or not.

ECA department:

To make plans for the improvement in ECA sector.


To conduct the extracurricular actives effectively.
To bring competition among students in extracurricular activities and in creative
works.

Lower Level Management:


The function of lower of level management are as follows:

To supervise the works done at the school.


To keep record of each financial transaction of the school.
To deal with visitors of school.
To make appointment with the visitor with the top level management.
To make day to day plans for the daily operation of the school.

CHAPTER THREE
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
3.1 Summary:This project was conducted in order to study about the levels of management of
Kanchanjanga Integrated Model School. The main objectives of the study are to know about
the importance of levels of management, to know about the hierarchy of management, to
know about the relation between levels of management. Basically, primary data are used in
this project. Various photographs are taken. Questionnaire was prepared. Interview with Mr.
Prem Bahadu rGurung was taken. Besides this few of the secondary data have also been used
in our project such as our course book of business studies of grade XII and information from
the internet. For this study, Kanchanjanga Integrated Model School was chosen. This study
helps us to know about the hierarchy management, the relation between levels of
management of an organization, the functions of levels of management etc.

3.2 Conclusion:The following are the conclusion that can be done from the study:

The strategic plans are made by the principle through meetings with the help of
management teams.
The relation between the levels of management is good.
Good unity between the levels of management is found.
In this school, both theoretical and practical knowledge are equally provided.
They take decision through minute.
They have no complain for the out stake and satisfied with the organization.
Team work is done for solving the problems.
There are no branches of this organization.
Staffs are working on both middle and lower level. So, proper hierarchy is not
mentioned.

3.3 Recommendation and Suggestion:After the proper study of the organization, we can also recommend and suggest the
following point:

Branches should be made.


Proper hierarchy should be maintained.
Management team should be increased.
Meetings should be done frequently.
Female staffs should be increased.
The facilities of ECA should be improvised.
