Course Objective:
The objectives of this course is to provide students with a general overview of control
systems, topics of measurement and control system instrumentation
Course Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this course, students shall be able to:
1. Explain the basic working principles of an automatic control operation, the fundamentals
of widely used PID controller and the feedback control theory.
2. Analyze the interactions of different elements in a control process.
3. Design analog and digital signal conditioning circuits.
4. Design automatic control systems using programmable logic controller
Course Synopsis:
The history of contemporary automation dates back to James Watts fly ball governor. The
level of sophistication in automation is far more than mechanism involving physical motion.
A curriculum in control process and instrumentation cover materials that are not purely
mechanical. A sensor is followed invariably by the need on signal conditioning. The ability
to make a suitable choice of sensors on offer is judged on the merit of prior knowledge,
availability, cost effectiveness, convenience, reliability, repeatability, sensitivity, durability in
hostile environment, user friendly etc. The knowledge of control and working principles
about these devices is gained in this course.
