Operations Research - 30113: Learning Outcomes

This course introduces operations research models and mathematical tools for optimization problems. The course outline includes topics like linear programming, integer programming, network flows, and multi-criteria decision making. Students will be assessed through a midterm exam, final exam, and practical activities. The midterm will be 25% of the grade if the student scores a 4 or higher on the final, which will be 70% of the grade. Practical activities are 5% and students need an overall score of 5 or higher to pass.

OPERATIONS RESEARCH 30113

Learning outcomes
Identify and develop operational research models from the verbal description of the real
system.
Understand the mathematical tools that are needed to solve optimisation problems.
Use mathematical software to solve the proposed models.
Develop a report that describes the model and the solving technique, analyse the results
and propose recommendations in language understandable to the decision-making
processes in Management Engineering.

Course Outline:
Methodology of Operations Research.
Linear programming: solving methods, duality, and sensitivity analysis.
Integer Programming.
Network flows.
Multi-criteria decision techniques.
Decision making under uncertainty and risk.
Game theory.
Dynamic programming.

Assessment:
The graded activities are: a midterm exam, a final exam, and some practical activities.
For the students that obtain at least a 4 in the final exam, the mid-term will be worth 25% of
the final grade, the final 70%, and the practical activities 5%. If the students obtain less than 4
in the final exam, that will be their final grade.
The students have to get a grade of at least 5 to pass the class.
