To Determine Unknown Resistance Using Wheatstone Bridge: Experiment#3

This experiment aims to determine an unknown resistance using a Wheatstone bridge. The apparatus includes a slidewire assembly, multirange galvanometer, unknown resistors between 1-100 ohms, tap key, 50 ohm resistor, and 1.5V power source. The procedure connects the circuit as shown in the figure and finds the point of zero deflection on the slidewire. It then calculates the lengths on either side of this point to determine the ratio and apply the formula to calculate the unknown resistance. Observations are then recorded in a table with the resistance, length ratios, and calculated unknown resistance.

Experiment#3

To determine unknown resistance using Wheatstone

bridge
Objective:
Measurement of unknown resistance using the slide bridge.

Apparatus
1)Slidewire assembly, one meter long.
2)Multirange galvanometer.
3)Unknown resistors in range 1 to 100 ohm.
4)Tap key (two, if galvanometer has no reduced sensitivity button).
Connecting wires.
5)50 ohm resistor (100 ohm may be substituted).
6)1.5 v power source (need not be regulated).
Figure

Procedure:
1)Arrange the apparatus as shown in figure.
2)Connect the terminals of battery with the terminals of the slide bridge introducing key on the
negative terminal of the batter
3)Connect the unknown resistance say x in the left side of bridge and resistance box say we use
resistance R from resistance box in side opposite to left side.
4)Connect the galvanometer with the circuit as positive terminal of galvanometer with a wire to point C
as shown in fig and negative terminal of galvanometer to jockey with the wire.
5)Make sure that all the connections are tight.
6)Now touch the jockey on the wire that is between the points A and C and find the point say D at
which the galvanometer shows zero deflection.
7)Calculate the length AD=L1 and DB=L2
Now apply the formula:

x=RL1/ L 2 Observation and Calculations:
