Understanding The Mack MP8 - Engine Builder Magazine

The Mack MP8 13-liter diesel engine has several unique design features that distinguish it from other engines. It uses a unit injector system rather than a common rail system. The MP8 also has an innovative crankcase ventilation system that uses a turbine separator to separate oil mist from vapors. Additionally, the MP8 moves the engine gear train to the rear of the engine for improved cooling, and adds a stiffener plate to the bottom of the cylinder block for increased rigidity and noise reduction. The lubrication system features six control valves that precisely regulate oil flow throughout the engine.
