SCORING SYSTEM
Likert type scale consisting of five categories ranging from Strongly Agree to Strongly
Disagree is applied to each item. Strongly Agree would get the score of 5 and strongly
disagree get the score of 1. If all these items are rated positively, a high score would result
indicating a more effective or positive work life balance. Minimum score will result reverse
of above as negative or imbalanced working and professional life. The resulting scores of
related items are combined variable wise. For example, the scores of all items, which
measured Job Demands, are added and a final score of job demands are derived. Similarly
total scores of all the twenty one variables are calculated. These variable wise scores are then
used to find inter-relationship among different variables of work life balance in banks and
insurance sector employees.
ANALYSIS OF DATA
The response of each respondent is filed on a personal computer in Microsoft Excel program.
The data is processed by using SPSS.
For the purpose of statistical analysis, both parametric and Non-parametric tests are applied.
Among parametric test Multiple and stepwise regression analysis was carried out. Among
Non-parametric Test the Chi-Square Test is applied to examine the relationship between two
variables and the median test is applied to see the difference on the basis of demographic
variables.
For Chi-square analysis, the scores are categorized into High, Moderate and Low levels. To
divide the score on any variable of the respondents in the categories of High, Moderate and
Low, the variable-wise score of each individual in the respondents categories are combined
in ascending order. The scores of first 27 % in each variable are considered to be high
scoring, next 46% in moderate scoring and the last 27% in low Scoring. After getting the
cutting points of Low, Moderate and High Score categories, Chi-square test is applied.
Multiple Regression analysis is used to know how much of the total variation in the
dependent variable can be explained by all the independent variables acting together.
Stepwise regression analysis is also used to eliminate some of the variables that could not
explain any variable significantly and also to avoid the problem of multicollinearity.
