18th Amendment

The 18th amendment to Pakistan's constitution was signed by President Asif Ali Zardari on April 19, 2010. It transfers many presidential powers to the prime minister, restoring the constitution to its original parliamentary democracy form. Key changes include increasing the prime minister's power, limiting the military's role in politics, providing free education up to 10th grade, and giving the prime minister authority over high court judge appointments. The amendment is seen as an achievement for democracy in Pakistan as it reverses the 17th amendment that concentrated power in the presidency.
