The document discusses the design of C-Tech basins for a sewage treatment plant based on C-Tech technology. It covers the design philosophy, criteria, loads, analysis and design of structural elements like retaining walls and baffle walls.

The main objective is to treat domestic sewage water using the Cyclic Activated Sludge Process. The outflow is 2291.7 cubic meters per hour using a decanter. The basins are designed as water retaining structures according to BS 8007.

Allowable soil bearing capacity, load combinations, and codes like IS 456 and BS 8007 are considered. Reinforced concrete elements are designed for ultimate and serviceability limit states.

1. INTRODUCTION
JTP Consulting Engineers Pvt. Limited is asked to do the estimate the BOQ &
Costing for civil work.
This design criteria deals with the detailed load calculation of C-Tech Basins for
Sewage Treatment plant.
This note pertains to the Design of C-Tech Basins in Sewage Treatment plant. The CTech Basins are included the four C-Tech Basin with Decanter. The each C-Tech Basins
dimensions are 39500 X 41000 X 5000mm. The baffle walls are the overflow and under
flow in the basin. The height of over flow and under flow walls are 2.6m and 5.5m water
carried the basin. The Retaining wall height is 5.5m acted the water pressure in horizontal
directions.

2. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
The main objective of the project is the treatment of domestic sewage water
transporting to the C Tech Basin from the Primary unit by using Cyclic Activated
Sludge Process. The outflow of water is 2291.7 m^3/ hr by using Decanter.

3. DESIGN CRITERIA
The C Tech basin is designed as water retaining structures as per BS 8007.
Serviceability checks are done as per IS 456:2000 limiting crack width to 0.2mm. The
Retaining walls of the basins are designed cantilever wall for the critical case of water
pressure. The baffle walls are designed the wall plate with using staad.pro software. The

baffle walls are designed critical case of water pressure with using staad.pro software.
The design calculation presented the Retaining structures, Base slab, Baffle wall for crack
width, temperature reinforcement in the C Tech Basin. Control of the Structural Analysis
and Design on this project has been completed in accordance with IS Codes of practices,
BS Codes of practices and project-specifications. The purpose of this document is to
summarize the code, standards and standard design criteria.

5. STRUCTURAL DESIGN CRITERIA

5.1.

NATURAL PHENOMENA
The allowable Safe Bearing capacity of the soil is 150kN/m2

recommended at a foundation depth of 2.5 3.5 metres m below the

existing ground level for the raft foundation.
The Co-efficient of friction has been determined from IS 9527 (Part 6). The
Co-efficient of friction between the concrete and sand is used as 0.45 at
checking of sliding for Retaining wall.
The C Tech Basin free board is taken as 300mm.

6. DESIGN LOADS
Design loads for structures have been determined according to the criteria described
below.

6.1.

Dead Load

Dead load is the self-weight of structural elements.

6.2.

Live load

Live loads consist of uniform live loads. Uniform live loads are considered the water
load differ in the basin height.

7. LOAD COMBINATIONS
The C-Tech Basin loading combinations are considered in the design of structures in
accordance with the stipulations in the IS 456:2000 design codes. The load combinations
are mentioned below.
Limit state of serviceability - DL+LL
Limit state of collapse 1.5DL+ 1.5 LL

8. ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS

8.1.

ANALYSIS

The structure has been modeled in Retaining wall as cantilever wall, Baffle wall as
wall plate with different critical cases. The structural analysis and design has been carried
out using Staad.Pro. The retaining wall will be checked the overturning, sliding and crack
width with different cases. The baffle wall will be checked the crack width in
corresponding cases. The base slab is designed in temperature and moisture effects.

8.2.

DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS

8.2.1. CONCRETE STRUCTURES

All RCC structural elements have been designed as per Limit state method of
design and checked for serviceability conditions confirming to IS 456 : 2000
The design is carried out using staad.pro software for the ultimate load
combinations and with the following criteria;
Clear cover to reinforcement shall
Retaining wall = 40mm
Baffle wall = 40mm
Base slab = 40mm

9. CODES AND STANDARDS

The design and specification of work carried in accordance with all applicable
standards. The following Codes and Standards have been identified as applying to
structural Analysis, Design and detailing etc.
