A chart that shows Australias population growth from 1990 to 2020.


Students select the first row of data that indicates the year and the third row of
data that shows the population figures for Australia. Students choose an
appropriate chart type (such as a line graph) and produce and format the chart.

A chart that depicts each countrys population as a percentage of the total


population of these 20 countries in 2020.
Students must sum the population figures for the column 2020. Using this,
students should enter a formula to calculate the percentage of each countrys
population. Students should then select the first column of data and the
percentage column and choose an appropriate chart type (such as a pie graph) and
represent this data. The pie graph should be appropriately formatted. Example
chart below:

Go to the UN data website at http://data.un.org/ and find the Information and


Communication Technology database. Select to view the data on Main (fixed)
telephone lines per 100 inhabitants.
Access the appropriate data on the website.

Filter the data to show number of users with fixed telephone lines in Australia
from 2000 to 2008.1
After filtering the UN data, students should have a data table with the years 2000
to 2008 and number of fixed telephone lines per 100 inhabitants.

Copy and paste this data into a spreadsheet program.

Please note that the textbook incorrectly instructs students to filter data to show the estimated Internet users in
Australia, which is a different link to the Main (fixed) telephone lines per 100 inhabitants.

4 Create a column chart, a scatter diagram and a bubble chart that depict these
statistics.
Students should select all of the data in the table and produce a column chart,
scatter diagram and a bubble chart. Example column chart, scatter diagram and
