This document provides a tutorial on counters with 15 questions covering their functions, types, logic diagrams, and applications. It asks the reader to distinguish between different counter types like mod-16, mod-10, and mod-8 counters. Questions cover topics like least significant bit (LSB), most significant bit (MSB), ripple counters, self-stopping counters, asynchronous vs synchronous counters, and designing counters using logic gates and flip-flops. The document tests the understanding of counters and their applications in digital circuits.

TUTORIAL CHAPTER 7 COUNTRERS SUBMIT BEFORE 19/08/2013 1. 2.
State the function of counter.
State the meaning of the following: i. LSB ii. MSB 3. Distinguish the following: i. Mod-16 counter ii. Mod-10 counter iii. Mod-8 counter in terms of their logic diagram and counting sequence. You may distinguish these counters in a table. 4. Sketch the waveform of the mod-16 counter. 5. State the function of the NAND gate in mod-10 ripple counter. 6. State the function of the OR gate in self-stopping counters. 7. Differentiate asynchronous and synchronous counters. 8. State the different of the up and down counters. 9. Name the logic gate needed to perform a conversion of a mod-16 counter to mode-10 counter. 10. Consider the output of the mode-16 counter are Q0, Q1, Q2 and Q3 with Q3 as MBS. Which output should be connected to the particular logic gate inputs? 11. Construct the circuit diagram for a 3 bit ripple down counter with self-stopping function. Provide its binary counting sequence assuming all output initially HIGH. 12. Design a mod-10 binary up-counter using negative edge JK flip-flops with active LOW clear. Draw its circuit diagram and pulse train diagram for all input and output. 13. Draw a logic diagram of a mod-6 ripple counter using JK Flip-flops. 14. List eight sequences of binary counts that the counter in (13) would go through. 15. List the counter's binary output for each pulse shown in Figure 2.
