The student conducted an experiment to determine if the mechanism of a Rubik's cube affects how fast it can be solved. Their hypothesis was that cubes with better designed mechanisms would be solved faster. They tested three cubes - the Cubicle Premium Weilong GTS, QiYi Thunderclap V2, and Cyclone Boys 3x3 - by scrambling and timing solves over multiple trials. Their results showed the Weilong GTS and Thunderclap V2 had similar times, around 0.07 seconds apart on average, while the Cyclone Boys was 6-7 seconds slower on average. This supported the hypothesis that a cube's mechanism impacts solve times, with higher quality mechanisms corresponding to faster speeds.

Question
Does the mechanism of a Rubik's cube
affect how fast it can be solved?

Rationale
The main reason for this project is that
online reviews of Rubiks Cubes dont
do justice to personal experience.
Based on reviews alone. It is very
difficult to truly know which cube is
right for you without actually using it.
Therefore, I thought this experiment
would be a very fun and different way
to find out.

Abstract
My question is: Does the mechanism of a Rubik's cube effect how fast it
can be solved? My Hypothesis is: If one of the Rubiks cubes is faster
than the others then it will make the statement that the mechanisms of
Rubiks cubes changes the amount of time it takes to solve because
different mechanisms make the cube faster and more responsive than
others. My procedure is scramble each Rubiks Cube with the same
scramble, then solve each cube recording the time for each, after all
trials average the time for each cube. My conclusion is: In the end the
Cubicle Premium Weilong GTS and QiYi Thunderclap V2 come in
neck and neck 0.07 seconds apart from one another and the Cyclone
Boys 3x3 6-7 seconds slower. This proves my hypothesis that the
mechanism of a Rubiks Cube does effect the amount of time it takes
to solve. As show in the experiment the cubes with a more thoroughly
designed and better quality mechanism had faster times than the
others.

Hypothesis
If one of the Rubiks cubes is faster than
the others then it will make the
statement that the mechanisms of
Rubiks cubes changes the amount of
time it takes to solve because different
mechanisms make the cube faster and
more responsive than others.

Generate Scramble from https://qqtimer.net

Use the notation reference sheet to scramble.
Scramble each Rubiks Cube with the same
algorithm
Start the timer by putting both hands on the
indicated parts of the timer and then releasing
Solve each Rubiks cube stopping the timer after
each one and record the time
Repeat this process for 14 more trials recording
each time
Find the average time it took to solve each cube
Whichever cube it took you the least time to solve is
the best cube for you

Conclusion
In the end, the Cubicle Premium Weilong
GTS and QiYi Thunderclap V2 come in neck
and neck at 0.07 seconds apart from one
another. The Cyclone Boys 3x3 comes in 6-7
seconds slower than the other two. This proves
my hypothesis that the mechanism of a Rubiks
Cube does effect the amount of time it takes to
solve. As shown in the experiment, the cubes
with a more thoroughly designed and better
quality mechanism had faster times than the
others.
